Ultimateduner Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 I have been growing Jalapenos for about 2 months now. Does any one know any ways to eat them/ prepare them? I tried eating them raw, (right off the plant) but they were not even hot enough for me to really notice it. Any advice? Quote
liquedfire Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 i dont cook LOL but this is what my buddies do they like 2 make them on shiskabobs (cant spell LOL) or when you cook chicken or something or chilli or anything relly Quote
Bansh88 Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 2 months? that doesnt seem long enough. Wait till they are at least 4" long. they should have some heat it you eat them with the seeds. I've been having the wife make me poppers. Top off, scoop out seeds, fill with a mix of cream cheese & shreded Motzarella. (she fills a plastic bag with the mix, cuts a small corner of the bag and squirts it in. like an icing bag) top with a 1/3 slice of bacon, toothpik through it to hold. We got these chili grills that hold peppers. just an aluminum piece with holes in it. got them from Walmart. So Fricken good! Quote

I didn't buy seeds the plants already had some growing when I bought it, still yet to see some heat. Any ways I'll have to try the kabob idea. Quote
dave95.1 Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 A couple of days before you are going to pick any, don't give the plant any water. If you want more heat that will bring it out. That seems weird that yours aren't getting any heat. Ours are always hotter than %#&^. We pickle a bunch of them with carrots and onions or whatever else you want to put in there. It takes some of the heat off the pepper and spices up the other stuff. Or buy a big jar of dill pickles and put some in there and leave for about 6 weeks. It will give the pickles some spice too. I know what he was saying I'm saying I bought the plant with peppers on it and they've been growing for two months. Anyways the directions for cooking them on the stove sounds good Quote
Rebel3190 Posted August 18, 2006 Report Posted August 18, 2006 something else before you cut the tops off take your knife and scrape the skin off it comes off pretty easliy. Quote
[email protected] Posted August 19, 2006 Report Posted August 19, 2006 I am a avid green thumb , i grow several strains of jap's ( jalapenos ) , 4 or 5 differnt kinds of tomatoes . It really depends on the strain , i have some japs that smell spicy but taste so sweet like a granny smith apple . My recomendations would be to check what the life expectancy of the plant is and when the harvest is reccomended . All in all , if they arent giving you the kick you want , try another strain / breed . Home depot sells seeds , but i actually prefer to plant seeds from actual peppers i get at the local grocery store. Currently doing some " sweet 100's " grape tomatoes all the japs i grow i got from local cubans in miami who call them some wierd names in spanish i can not pronounce . heres my jap recapie ( gator or chicken ) bite size peices marinated in mojo or italian salad dressing overnight Jalapeno cut into qtrs . ( strip size peices ) favorite bacon of choice Put chicken , jalapeno strip , wrap with bacon ( toothpick to hold it together ) and GRILL ............ If u do this recapie , pound the chicken or gator thin. Quote
