csrmel Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 ive sort of been toying with the idea of converting to alchy and converting my shee to run off it. i found a place that will cut me a great deal if i buy 55 gallon drum of it. but this stuff is expensive and id like to know the feasibility of dealing with the stuff before i nut up and actually do it. so as a general guideline, how long would alchy store in a sealed drum kept in the dark in a outdoor shed that probably gets to 120 degrees during the middle of the day? I am not 100% sure how long it can really go but when I don't burn any for a couple months and its sealed up really good it is just fine. By the way you say it is expensive, how much can you buy a 55 gallan drum for? Quote
Shee-Male Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 The key is sealed tight!, it can last a long time. trex, although a very good pic of some very cool bikes, could you do us a favor and shrink it a little? Please. Quote

mgty3whlr Posted August 1, 2006 Report Posted August 1, 2006 I 55 gal. drum of alky is rather cheap. It goes on market price. Last I checked about 3 weeks ago, the local place that I get my drums said $150 for 55 gals. Last year it was $180. As for keeping it, as long as the drum is sealed tight , It should last a long time. Quote

Thanx trex, no troubles, not trying to be an ass either, I think alot of us appreciate it.......Damn those are some sweet rides! Where I used to work, we stored a few drums of methenol for the race car over the winter with no ill affects. Edited August 1, 2006 by Shee-Male Quote
mgty3whlr Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 What I think he means by expensive is when I first started buying alky, I used to goto the performance store and buy it 5 gallons at a time. I used to pay $40- $45 a 5 gallon drum. much more expensive. Like I said , it's much more practical to buy it 55 gallons at a shot. It'll be much cheaper and as long as the drum is sealed tightly it'll stay fresh. Also if you think 55 gallons it too much , then go in with a couple of buddies and split the drum. Quote

Where are you from that might have a factor. I do know it has went up cause last year my first drum was only like $115. If you think thats alot try buying a 55 gallon drum of 114 its $400! One of the big reasons why I went to alcohol. Quote
sweetquads Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 Holy Shnikies, where are you people buying alky from. The only places i have found to buy it from want to charge me like $250 for M1 VP for the 50 gallon drum. I think i would nut in my shorts if i found it for less than $150. Shit even through VP direct they wanted to charge me $225 plus like $75 to ship it to me. Quote
Big Blue Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 That is because it is VP you are paying for the name....... Quote
trex banshee Posted August 2, 2006 Report Posted August 2, 2006 That is because it is VP you are paying for the name....... Well still, VP around here is still under $150. Quote
