I was working on my banshee trying to get my shifting figured out and my shift star doesnt move a whole lot. it only will move 1/4 of the way around. it wont go past the 1/4 on either side. how can i get it to move? is there a special tool i need? i try to shift it with the shift lever and it doesnt catch. can the shift star be in any spot to adjust it or what? i need help quick guys. Thanks

the shift star is slotted so it can only go on the shift cam one way... as far as it not moving try spinning the wheels and shifting it it might be hanging up ... if you had a differant question try to explian it better your post is all kinda jummbled together.

ya man sorry i dont really know how to explain it. like on the shift star there is the 6 pins then one little thing by one of the pins. in the clymer it shows this at 9:00 and the broken peice of the star at 6:00 on mine the broken end of the star is at 3:00 and the little thing is at 12:00. do i need this to be exactly how it is in the clymer to adjust it and put it back together or can i just adjust it how it is and will it be good? sorry but thats the best way i can put it. if you have a clymer go to chpt 5 and look at figure 109 or something like that its in the middle of a page on the right hand side

Like eman says... lift the back off the ground and have some one turn the wheels while you shift down. You should be able to get it into neutral from there. Check the adjustment of the shiftshaft while it's in gear.

the part of the star with the "slot" in it is nuetral or how ever u spell it... yours is just in a differant gear then the clymers is as long as your gears are in the case correctly and the same for the shift forks youll be ok... just make shur you can shift to all your gears... mine wouldnt shift at first either... just have the wheels spinning slowly and it should go... shouldnt be as bad once you get oil in there.

ya my cases have never been split and it was working good until my external shift adjuster fell out and got ate by my clutch basket gear. so they are all in there good. as long as it is adjusted good like the even space between the two pines and the C then it should shift good right? i just need to downshift it while the wheels are spinning? cause when it broke i had third and fourth and i think thats what gear its in now

yea if im understanding you right ... the star fell off ? if not your still correct in what you are sdaying... the shift cam spins as you shift so that why your clymers is showing the star in a differant postion the star can only go on one way casue tis slotted.. if im not answering your question try taking some picts and point out what it is your trying to ask...

if your case hasnt been split then your shift forks are in the right spot and its just your star that your replacing?

once you get your star back on make sure you got the shifting mech in and put your shift lever back on and shift it back up to 1st and go through all your gears and make sure they will all go in... if so you should be good..just be sure you clean any metal out of your clutch befor you start riding again... some say you can spary brake cleaner in it and then youll be okj but i dont like doing that id rather take 15 more min and do it right by taking the clutch apart and seperating the plates and making sure that way...

ok i know what your talking about now... i had the same problem with mine... ill have to think what was the cause of it and get back to you.. i do know it was very ez to fix but i cant remeber right now off the top of my head... is your clutch already off so you could replace that shifting mech?

well i was just messing with it before and got it to work perfectly but then i tried it with my shifter on and it got all bunged up again so i tryed to get it how it was before and it would not go. everything is off it. i dont know why but it binds and wont shift. i had it in neutrel and everything and was aligning it and everything. does it have to be in neutral before i can adjust it and put it back together? i will go and get some video of it right away

no you can start it off in any gear as long as the shift forks are in correctly and in your case they are because you did ever remove them... with no oil in the case and what not could be the reason its not moving much i know once i got mine put back together and oil in the case it was much ezer

i want to say we had the gears lined up wrong casue i took the whole motor apart... once we slowed down and lined everything up right it all worked fine... you should be good just try the things we said befor and try it out... dont waste time putting on your clutch til you get it to shift casue your going to be taking it off and on until its right

ok i think i got it. was working well before so well see. i am going to take a pic of it in 10 and post it to see if my C on the shift rod thing is in the right spot. its not like it is in the clymer and i have no clue why but there is only one pin and its in the middle instead of the two pins. i will post a pic to explain
