What to look for.

Hey guys,I'm new around here and I've decided to buy into the banshee family.Tomorrow I'm going to look at a 2004 banshee and I want to know what to look for to I can know if the motor is in good shape or not.

just pay a bit more and get yourself a brand new shee if you can

 

if not then try looking for oil leeks

 

drive it to see if it pulls well

 

even if you bought it and later found out problems ....... banshees are Replaceable and Repairable

well this is what i would look for

 

1.when it starts up mke sure it is fireing on both pistons(smoke coming out of both silincers when its cold)

 

2.make sure all bearings and bushings are nice and tight(swingarm bushings and axle bearings a-arm bushings and such)

 

3.open the air box lid and check what kind of filter there is and see if it is clean (that will tell u what kinda life the bike has had so far)

 

4. take if for a rip and see if it pulls nice and smooth no chopping under load and keep it reved make sure theres no hesitating (cant spell LOL)

 

5. look for striped bolts nuts

 

6. look under the bike and check the frame for dents or major scratches

 

7 and the normal chain and sprokets bent bars

 

8. see if it has been greesed!!

Look at the plastics, any discoloration means the plastic has been bent, possibly rolled............. :beer:

If you can borrow a compression tester that would be good, you can pick them up for pretty cheap too. Like someone else said, check the bolts to see if they've been touched, it's good to know what they have had to mess around with.

 

Just know that it IS a used banshee, so no matter how nice it is, they have still had a good time on it.

A well taken care of Banshee should be VERY clean. Being an '04, it should still look fairly new. Most likely, they guy bought it THINKING he would like it and didn't.
