BigRed350x Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 i just got my piston rings in but dont kno how shold i put them in without damaging my piston(scratching or bending the rings) please help I just put them in by hand. Spread the two ends enough to get the back side of the ring started then walk them in from there. Never had any trouble with it. You can also start one end, then walk them in all the way around to the other side. Just be careful. I've never had any trouble yet doing it this way. Never broken a ring or scratched the piston or anything. Quote
fastcar01 Posted June 27, 2006 Report Posted June 27, 2006 You can buy at Murrays (or any parts store) a cheap ring expander that will make this easier. They only cost about 5 bucks and it does help. It looks like a pair of pliers that expanders when you squeeze/ Otherwise like said above just walk it one there. You are not going to damage the piston, but you can snap a ring if you arn;t careful.
