trent741 Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 I un-hooked tie rods and got the steering stem out, but cant get the bearings out, there is a hex head on top of bearing that I cant get out.......any thing I can do to get it out???? Quote
Ruko Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 you can either go buy the tool from your dealer, or just make one... it's not too hard.. we found a bolt that almost fit, then ground it down until it did fit, then welded a nut to it so we could turn it... works great as was basiclly free. gregbowler Posted June 25, 2006 Report Posted June 25, 2006 3/4 inch bolt and 2 matching nuts from the hardware store. Just tighten the nuts against each other. Quote
racer Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 yup thats how i did mine. but mine was frozen like a sumbitch and it took some serious effort to remove. so antiseize the hell out of that thing when you go back together with it. Quote
[email protected] Posted June 26, 2006 Report Posted June 26, 2006 i went to home depot , and i bought a bolt that would fit in it, then went and bought the hex head socket .... Get the bolt and screw it onto a nut , then if you dont have a welder, i simply murshoomed the tip of the bolt until the threads were damaged enough to not let the bolt come off . Clymer shows how to make the tool somewhat.... to mushroom it out i just used a 2lb sledge and just kept bashing at it for about 2 minutes. i remember paying 3.59 for the rig and its paid itself off easily . BE VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY careful removing the bearing when you bash it up, if you do it wrong or un even you can damage all the threads that hold the lock nut beraing retainer in place . Tryin to save ya the headache my buddy went through . Quote
