Make sure the pressure plate is not stripped in the center, just happened to me last Sunday and had to have the shop at the Badlands weld it so I could ride!!It got pretty hot so I am replacing the rod and ball also their cheap enough. Got the new parts today to fix it Monday so its ready to go next weekend! Why did you take the motor apart you can get it out by using a auto pencil magnet and pul it out?

Did you make sure that you put both thrust washers on. It does exactly what you are explaining if you forgot one of them. I know from experience.
