Ok, I recently bought a used banshee off an extended family member, got a great deal on it. I bought an 87 with a fresh motor, the machine runs like its brand new, for $1200. I need to know what are the things that will not fit on my 87 vs the newer ones. I've been looking at parts on ebay to freshen up the body and parts on it. I know the 87 has j-arms instead of a-arms, other than that I have no idea. I already ordered some good used plastic for it off a 99, I hope this will fit. My next thing I want to do is get rid of the Gold rims and get new rims for it, I read somewhere that the rims from a 87 will not work with rims from a newer year. Heres a pic below, let me know what you think. It will be a good starting point for a work in progress. Please help.

Rear wheel hubs have a different bolt pattern (newer hubs will fit the axle tho)

Rear bearing carrier (thing that connects the swingarm to the axle) is different - uses 3 bolts instead of the newer 2 bolt design.

Axle lock nuts are notched instead of normal nut shape

Front spindles are a different design (I think everything still fits the same tho)

Stock gearing is different

Doesn't have a brake light, just a tail light

Doesn't have the mounts on the frame for the newer style heel guards

Wiring uses different connectors

Seat is a thinner foam

I think that's everything.

The only difference between the new ones is the 89-90 (4/156 same as all fronts) had a different bolt pattern on the back, the 87-88 ( 4/115 ) is the same as the 91-06 everything else is the same except some pipe mounts that won't matter cause they all fit in the back. Plastics same, electrical has differrent plugs 87-94 round the 95-06 square. CDI box plugs same till 94 then 95-96 diff,97 up all the same.So electri replacements will have to be hardwired unless you can get replacement parts of that year. Most every parts seller has new to fit parts.Hope this helps. Yea I have an 87 too!among others
