BrianEb Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Can anyone give me a detailed description of how to install a new clutch basket and shift star mod. this is what I know so-far Drain Coolant, Drain Oil, remove clutch cover, disconnect rear brake Mcyl. Remove Kick starter. But do you have to remove the clutch rod. where the clutch cable is connected? Quote
Hilarious Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Just remove the brake pedal, not the whole master cylinder. To get to the basket, you have to pull the whole clutch assy, out. Do you have a clymers? If not get one. U need to unloosen the little adjuster in the center of the hub. Remove the 6 screws holding the springs. Loosen ea. of them gradually at at time untill all tension is lifted off the springs. Pull the hub off. Now remove the big ass nut that holds the inner hub and basket on. I used an impact wrench with a 1-1/4" socket. Next would be for you to remove the ring gear and such from the back of the basket by carefully drilling out the rivets that hold it to the basket. You can clearly see the shift star when the clutch assemby is out. This is a far as I have gotten with my tear down. Someone else should come in and add any additional info. Quote
Animalman294 Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 You really need a Clymer's. It is worth the 25 bucks, and it has pictures in case you dont understand something. It is really easy and straight forward, but the book will help. Quote
dajogejr Posted May 8, 2006 Report Posted May 8, 2006 Make sure you push the plastic spacer on the kickstart gear assembly all the way back before you put the cover back on... The tourque specs for the clutch spring bolts is 7.5 Ft. Pounds...I think. Clymer is not handy... Do NOT overtourque these...they will snap off. You can grind the rivets off the back side of the basket...until they're flush, then use an air hammer/chisel to push them out. Quote
BrianEb Posted May 9, 2006 Author Report Posted May 9, 2006 Thanks for your help everyone. Yes I have a Clymer's Don't work on the Shee without it. But they show you how to dissassemble everything from the clutch push rod to the shift shaft I just wanted to know what was the absolute stuff I had to take off. Example do I have to loosen the clutch cable at the handle bars befor I start Would love to put o Hinson Clutch Cover on it after it is all said and done Quote
dajogejr Posted May 9, 2006 Report Posted May 9, 2006 Loosening the clutch cable at teh perch is a wise idea. Make sure you adjust the arm on the left side of the case properly first, the cable adjustment at the perch comes last. Quote
