I disagree, the FMF's have been Dyno proven to run right w/the Toomey's, and you can usually pick them up cheap. On the down side, the chrome(nickel plating)is shit, and the Toomey's sound a little better. Couldn't tell you about the other two.

Then why is it builders dont recomend them if they have been dyno proven ???????

Same reason you think they are awesome, Toomeys are(were) a banshee only pipe maker, they must be better. There is always a big disagreement on this whereever this topic comes up. I believe A&S has some dyno sheets on there web site that shows a very comparable curb between the two, as a matter of fact, the toomeys dipped in power toward the top, where the FMF's stayed smooth. I am sure in different conditions and different motors both will shine better than the other, and I am not saying you are not correct in telling him the Toomeys are a sweet pipe. But I disagree that the Toomeys blow away the FMF's. I have raced time and time again bikes w/toomeys when my bike was stock w/pipes, and have never had a comparable bike w/Toomeys walk away from me, as a matter of fact, usually beat them. Maybe we can get a few more opinions on this subject before you start bashing the shit out of me.

Didnt you run them???

Give us a quick review of them compared to your new setup??

Yes, I had them. Still do, in a box in the attic in the garage where they are to stay. Unless somebody here wants to buy them.

I changed to CPIs mainly for the motor mods that I hope to get done.

I dont know if this is just a freak occurance to just me or what tho, but

the CPIs gave me a noticable gain EVERYWHERE in the powerband compared to my fattys. And this being on a stock bike with stock porting, carbs, with the exception of K&N pod filters and V-force 3 reed cages.

I know the CPIs are a drag pipe and everyone says that they just give power gains in the midrange and top end, but I got more low end with them too.

The Fattys bolted up and fit well and the finish on them is crap.

Now on the other hand, the CPIs didnt fit worth a darn. I had to shim them

a little bit and the silencers dont line up with the subframe. Chrome on the CPIs is a little better than the fattys. The CPIs are a lot louder than the fattys also. In my case, the CPIs perform more better than the FMF fattys. Duh. lol

Reason I typed "fuck FMF" was because I had tried to get in touch with them

several times looking for a pipe for my nephew's mini 50cc. Instead of helping me out, they sent me a god damn catalogue with hats, tee shirts, wristbands, you know the shit that they sell to help them advertise for free.

Moral of this story: FMF 0, CPI 1

No Ellison, I wasn't implying that bashing would be anything personal, I have just been around here long enough to know what just might come my way. :P This is one reason I enjoy this site, as compared to some others where I find good info also, but that is it.

I did grab a link though just to show that they are very close in performance.

This all being said, If I were to buy something brand new, I would spring for the extra and buy brand new Toomey's, but if I found a good deal used, and on a budget, Fatty's aren't so bad. :shrugani:

Its all good :P I agree, if you are on a budget and your bike is stock... Any pipe will be better than what you have. I do Find it hard to believe that FMF pipes pull harder than Toomeys on a 4 mm Cheetah cub :wacko::wacko:

But thats just my 2 cents..

I liked the Fattys I had. Everyone (that has Toomeys) bashes them just like they do with DG pipes but the Toomeys never really impressed me.

When my bike was all stock (including gearing) except for DG pipes I raced (on asphalt) with a Banshee that had Toomeys, Weisco Pro-Lite pistons, reeds and 15/41 gearing in it and I pulled away for him. From what I had read about Toomeys I figured I would get my ass handed to me but I was suprised and so was the other guy.

Toomey's might have nicer welds and better chrome then FMF's and DG's but don't work much better if any IMO. Actually I found the DG's pulled better on top then the Fattys did but they fit like shit - but I bought them 10 years ago so their quality might have improved since then.

Its funny how none of you have mentioned DMC in your comparisons... Its probably one of the best sounding pipes out there and improves the Banshee in a very important way... Low RPMs... I ride trail so maybe that is why I am so fond of DMC....

I've never run the FMFs so I can't say anything about them. But as far as the DMC 916's vs T5's I give the nod to T5's for my type of riding. I ran the 916s for a while and liked them they ran good and sound great but when I got beat by a CRF450X dirtbike in a drag it was close but he got the jump and I couldn't reel him in. It seemed my DMC's just couldn't rev out as much as I needed maybe the aliens would have but I don't know. I then picked up a set of T5's and the difference seems to be maybe a tiny loss on bottom but nothing major but they seem to rev out higher. Next time my bud is down with the bike I will run him again and it should be very close but I still may not be able to beat him. My bike is setup for woods/mx riding not dragging anyway. I'd recommend either the 916's or T5's for a woods rider but the T5's work better with my single carb/Gorr port setup but it's similar. I feel like the T5's give a little more torque than the DMC's in the mid but the DMC's are a lower range pipe IMO.

Here's a link to my banshee running the 916's against my buds vitos big bore blaster running FMF, it wasn't even a race unfortunately.
