landw0lf Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 (edited) hey, banshee seized this afternoon! Banshee was spluttering and coughing on the right hand side, i just thought that it was the jetting on the right hand carb....however - this jetting was fine since the rebuild was done (3 months ago). So, we went on chopping and changing things... First was the reeds - went from stock to boyesen, old ones were hell flogged out. Also found that the main jets had fallen out of both carbies so we cleaned out the carbies and put it all together again. We then put on a new air filter, adapted the old air intake and filter from a Raptor 700. Did a plug chop and all looked ok, bike seemed to be running sweet so we went for a thrash at the quarry..... 2 laps in and the thing just siezed rock solid... started coughting at first then stopped. Took the head off to see what happened and below is what we saw. Plugs look a little lean but not to bad eh ?? Also when you push the pistons they seem to be free in the barrel, sideways movement... Take a look at these pics - see what you think - they are HIGH res - as i want you to see as much detail as possible. The fucking thing was rebuilt 4 months ago - ridden maybe once a month. 230main jets 27.5 pilots - 1 1/5 turns out on the air screws k & n filter stock pipes ported motor Any input is appreciated as I am very upset as riding is my way away from things.....eg - a slutty gf who pretended to love me. Thanks guys If you need any more info just post away! Edited March 30, 2006 by landw0lf Quote
RNBRAD Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Did it get hot? I don't like the color of those plugs, looks to me like at some point the jetting was close but then they got real hot. Best guess with the info is a lean condition that caused it to overheat. Quote
landw0lf Posted March 30, 2006 Author Report Posted March 30, 2006 So...is it top or bottom end......both pistons move sideways and kick starter is jammed rock solid Quote
Toytrk85 Posted March 30, 2006 Report Posted March 30, 2006 Just pull the jugs and see if the connecting rods are locked up. if they are you'll have to get in there anyway so its not like your wasting gaskets. Maybe the crank split and is tight against the sides? Also I would pull the side cover and see if one of the gears or soemthing else is messed up with the kickstarter. Neither of this is a big deal and you should be more than comfortable pulling them to find the problem. My .02 Nick Quote
J-Madd Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 (edited) Crank bearings could have seized or busted. They can get on top of the piston and cause that type of damage as well as lock the sucker up at the bottom; or at least make it real difficult to turn it over. I saw it on a buddy's shee a couple years ago. Pull the top end off and you will get a better idea of what's wrong, as mentioned above. Edit: by crank bearings I mean lower rod bearings. Justintoxicated Posted March 31, 2006 Report Posted March 31, 2006 (edited) you were probably too lean and messed up your lower rod bearings. I don't like the burn on your plug either but the pictures don't tell much. It loosk like something was in the one cylinder and pitted the head a bit...You did tighten the screws on your reeds right? Capone Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 230's are way too small, especially if you're ported. Your plugs look like they were almost correctly jetting because you killed it when it was using the pilot jet, which was good. I'll almost promise you... you broke a skirt on your piston which is on your crank now. Quote
ROOOOST Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 took it into the shop today to get it fixed he said my top end there is too much play - so need new pistons and rings and that the crank is probly stuffed airleak on the crank seal and that caused it to lean out also i used to run 240mains and it would flood dropped to 230s and it was crisp as...
