well the list of mods is in my sig .. we fired it up today, it fired up 1st kick. i set up at 350 mains, 27.5 pilots , 2 turns on airscrew, 4th clip on needle. .... runnin stock carbs and needles .. this things idleing pretty high with the choke on so i checked it out for air leaks .. none to be found ... so is there a fast idle adjustment on the stock carbs or should i do a leakdown test :confused:

Close down your air mixture screws, and see if it idles down. Make sure both screws are adjusted the same. There isn't a fast idle adjustment, just an idle adjustment, and an air mixture screw.

i guess i should also add that its only climbing about 200 or 300 rpm with the choke on. its just never done it b4 and it didnt start till after i put on the fat bastards and rejetted .... like i said tho it starts 1st kick. lol race fuel and klotz stays in the house for awhile ..... lol i did the winter build in my dining room :evil:

Mine will sometimes idle high, when I first start it, if it has been setting for awhile. I think it's because, the carb bowls aren't full of fuel, and it's being starved for fuel. It doesn't last very long. Close your air mixture screws a little bit, and see if that helps.

yea i'll try that. i only left it chocked for about 5 seconds and closed it then it idled perfect ..... lol it only ran about 3 or 4 minutes and wife was gettin shotgun out :whoa: hehe it's sittin in my dinin room

If I think about it, I turn on the gas, a few minutes before starting it, so that the bowls get full of fuel. Winter time jetting can be tricky, because of the wild temperature changes. I usually have to adjust my air mixture screws everytime i ride, depending on the temp changes. I can't believe you started your Shee, in the house. :whoa:

just got done going over the whole topend with carb cleaner and couldn't get any signs of a airleak from around the carb boots,reeds,balance tube,cylinder base gaskets and no rise in rpm what so ever .. i'm startin to get a bad feelin' kinda like its the left crank seal because when i choke it even warm it get a small rise in rpm mebe 50 to 100 rpm or so :huh:

i took the carbs off and pulled em apart. there is a brass tube extending down into the fuel bowl on the left carb but there isn't a tube in the right carb. on the left on when ya pull the choke button ya can blow though it and when closed ya can't, is it possible that when choked its suckin some air from the right carb where it appears the little brass tube should be ?? ohhhh and when choked it smokes considerabley more from the left side than the right, but when the choke is closed and it runs for a minute it smokes equal outta both sides !!

The tubes are exactly as they should be. Only the left carb has the brass tube in the float bowl, the choke "signal" is passed from the left carb to the right, by your rubber choke line that runs between the carbs. I believe all of this is completely normal. My bike does the exact same thing for about 5 seconds, but then will act as if it would load up if you didn't increase the idle speed. The momentary increase in RPM is likely due to the rich fuel mixture, due to the choke being pulled. Does your bike smoke out the tailpipes after it is warmed up? Mine generally smokes just a bit more out of the right side tailpipe at startup, but once warmed up it doesn't smoke at all. Also the left side crank seal would cause an air leak (obviously) so you should be able to check it out real quick by pulling your stator cover and spraying some carb cleaner in behind the flywheel. The right side crank seal would draw oil from the tranny and cause a significant amount of smoke, in theory, more when you get on the gas hard.

ya once i close the choke and it runs for a minute then it smokes evenly but very little ( normal ) its never high idled with the choke on till i installed the pipes and rejetted . i'll try pulling the stator cover and spray some carb cleaner behind the stator .... LOL i didnt think of checkin seal like that, was gonna pressure test it. but ill try this 1st

Leak down testing will work fine too, and is probably the most accurate way to check, but in a bind you can check the left seal this way.

well i pulled the stator cover and sprayed a bunch of carb cleaner behind the stator and got no kind of rise in rpm what so ever. well as far as checkin for air leaks like this, it test's out fine ... is it possible that the pilot change could have a effect on the idle with the choke on ???? thanks for all the info :cheers:

I wouldn't think so, but ?? Like I say, if it isn't jumping up a bunch, and it goes down when you push the choke in, I think this is just normal. My bike has always done this. If you think about starting a carbureted car on a cold morning it has a fast idle setting until it warms up and the choke backs off. Now part of this has to do with some additional car carb features (fast idle cam), but it is in part due to the rich, choked fuel mixture. My $.02 is that you're fine. :cheers:

im thinkin' it's in the pilot and air screw. it's never done it till i installed the fat bastard's and rejetted. is it possible that the engine is breathing that much better with these pipes over the fatty's?? im thinkin' mebe try and close down the air screws to see if it will make a difference. it does act like the pilot is dead on though, it doesn't even take but half the kicker stroke to get her fired up :unsure:
