JET 99 Posted November 20, 2005 Report Posted November 20, 2005 Need a little input to help me decide which way to go, I have sandblasted them and painted with 1500deg. paint but that aint sticking down on the neck of the pipe by the heads. I work at a machine shop so i could use our plater and either chrome, black oxide. I know chrome holds the heat more is that a possible issue,I aint worried which looks better which works better as a finsh, not much sand where I ride dirt and corn where I am at. Quote
JET 99 Posted November 20, 2005 Author Report Posted November 20, 2005 I forgot to include that I sandblasted them before I used the Hi Temp paint(header paint). Looked great until I rode it a few times and the paint bubbled up and started flaking off around the pipes down by the head! Quote
TheBansheeMan86 Posted November 22, 2005 Report Posted November 22, 2005 im not sure about the paint on the outside holding up, but i know if you paint the inside of the front header (by the cylinder) with a high temp white paint it helps that part of the pipe from turning yellow/blue/purple (on chrome pipes). might be a try for yours too? 2003LimitedBanshee Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 Not trying to hijack your post, but I have a suggestion I have kicked around and wonder if anyone has any experience. Has anyone ever had a set of pipes ceramic coated, somebody like JetHot etc? I've always run ceramic coated headers on all my automotive applications, thought about having my pipes coated after the chrome inevitably started to fail. The ceramic coating is also a lot better on containing heat within the pipe so that it can be more effeciently exhausted. Quote
cbn70 Posted November 23, 2005 Report Posted November 23, 2005 I had a set done about 5 years ago(ceramic coated), and they still look the same as the day that I got them done. I only got the flat black done, I think now they have more colors to choose from. Quote
JET 99 Posted November 24, 2005 Author Report Posted November 24, 2005 NOT at all I have been pondering what kind of finish would hold up?I worked at S&S cycle for a while doing cnc machine repair. but the are not worried about the abrasive effect of sand mud dirt blasted across the pipes at full op temp.I dont see to many chops or baggers out in the badlands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JET 99 Posted November 26, 2005 Author Report Posted November 26, 2005 Just curious has anyone else tried ceramic coating their exhaust? I am not one to spit and polish all weekend, but if I am gonna do something to it, I want it to be worth it!!!!!!!!! anyones input would be helpful. I have used the search but did not find any topics that focus on it Thanks Quote
