Andyman Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 Hi all, I'm new here, Ok, so I traded an AR-15 Gun package for a Honda 250x and I love it. However, some questions have arisen that get me wondering. 1) It's extremely loud and I'm wondering if that is normal? It doesnt sound healthy yet I could be imagining things. 2) It rides awesome, yet seems to not want to start as smoothly after a stall. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Quote
2strokesmoke Posted November 6, 2005 Report Posted November 6, 2005 my brother has one sounds like your baffle has been gutted that will make it loud and check your carb boot might be suching air that will make it hard to start those things are tuff lots of torque good luck Quote
STLBILL Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 Just for curiosity... we are talking about a three-wheeler... Honda ATC... here right? What years did they make a 250X? I recall a friend had an 1984 200X and I still see people with a 350X now and again. Those were sport ATCs. I also recall a 250SX which was more like a utility machine - the "Big Red" with racks and such. So, what was a 250X like? -Bill Quote

wesw Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 they were fun and dependable bikes. hard to break down. they did have some valve train noise, either rocker arms or something, they werent the quietiest motors. but they ran and were tough. i thought they were short framed but im 6 ft 3 so i was like a monster on them. jinx44 Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 The 250X was made in 87-88 and then again in 91-92. I have had a few. Including a big bore and a 410cc stroker that I built before playing with banshees. With a stock pipe (with the baffle still in) they aren't loud. All aftermarket pipes for them are loud though. i loved the custom supertrapp i had on the stroker. As for the hard to start, check your valve clearance. Quote
Andyman Posted November 7, 2005 Author Report Posted November 7, 2005 No, it's a four-trax with reverse-option not the 3 wheeler you were thinking of. As far as checking the valve flow---how do I do that? Do I use a cleaner or special oil? My Uncle has suggested C-Foam with the oil itself. I am so new to this stuff it aint funny, BTW, how much would a quieter muffler head be> Thanks Quote
98bonerSTOCKshee Posted November 7, 2005 Report Posted November 7, 2005 The ATC 250x are a sporty type of the Big Red, I have a '85 and think that is possible the only year. The front shock was kinda like the 250r's and the 200x's, pretty much the only difference from Big Red besides the 22" tire instead of the 25's like the Red... with the stock muffler it is quite..
