sycoracer911 Posted October 26, 2005 Report Posted October 26, 2005 alright im thinking about slotting the stator tonight... just mill 3mm to the left of each whole for a 4degree gain right? anyway cna i just do that and re install or do i have to space the thingy out more...the pick up coil or magnito... idk what its callled Quote
BdBanshee Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 If you don't take the pulse coil off, you shouldn't have to reset the clearance. Quote
midnite Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 I thought it was 1mm per degree. So 4mm = 4 degrees advanced. I've also heard 4.5 mm = 4 degree advance. If I was cutting my stock plate, I would cut it 4 mm. Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 I'm all for doing mods and work myself, but I have to ask why not go with a Ricky Stator plate for $35? I apologize, I don't know the answer to your question, but just food for thought. I know you've been around for a while and have heard of Ricky's plate, so not trying to cause insult, just my .02 Quote
midnite Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 Well one reason is the ricky stator plate is $35 plus roughly $10 for shipping. Modding the stock plate costs $0. Quote
eehsnab2 Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 Readjusting the gap takes about 2 secs with a feeler guage... wouldnt hurt to check and re-adjust for piece of mind... Quote

BdBanshee Posted October 27, 2005 Report Posted October 27, 2005 Here is a pic of a plate modified to advance +5 degrees. Quote
2003LimitedBanshee Posted October 28, 2005 Report Posted October 28, 2005 My plate from Ricky set to set the air gap as close as you could, but no tighter than .20" So I got out a set of feeler gauges and set it at .20". Although I checked mine before disassembling it and it was set at .32" from the factory. Quote
