Why do you use just Type F ATF?  All automatic trannys are wet clutches so I don't see why Type F is the only one that works.

Pretty much all the other ATFs have the same friction modifiers that the oils do. Type F is doesn't, and lets the clutch hook up good.

i think you got that backwards type f has the friction modifiers and the others don't.thats what i was told back in the early days when i was driving 50's,60's and 70's fords. :shrugani:

when i had my ol 84 gmc with a some what of a shift kit, if i ran type f fluid it would get a second gear scratch but with dexron mercon it was sloppy shifting.

 

type f is the stuff to use

Type F is what I use also, I have tried Gearsaver in the past and it worked good too.

Dexron Mercon is the old lady shift type fluid

 

Chrysler type is the in between

 

Type f is the firmest shifting auto trans fluid.

 

I use type F in my 66 Chevelle.

 

I was told however that if you have been using regular oil in your trans to keep using it until you change your clutch. Other wise it will prematurely fry the clutch when you change.

Well I switched 2 years ago, and haven't had the least problem with my clutch yet. I wouldn't worry about switching.
