It does not have ignition timing like a gas motor. They use injector timing, pulse width, and injection pressure to deliver a different fuel curve.

In a diesel more fuel = more HP as long as there is adequate air to burn it.

In a diesel timing is all about when the fuel is being injected.

So that is why it pours black smoke when I have the chip turned up. I have heard of guys cutting the plastic behind the grill where the air enters for the intake, does anybody know if that will help?

As a matter of fact, I did that this last weekend.

It helps some. More on the freeway as you have a good amount of air then.

I haven't driven enough to calc any increases, but the heiney dyno seems to think it helps.

No shit. No wonder he hasn't been around the HQ as much lately. Too many hobbies. But you got to love forced induction motors. They are as addicting as shee is. The mods are more endless than a banshee and the power is insame.

I didn't take any pictures, sorry.

Here's a rundown.

Take the four screws out of the top of the grill. Now unlatch the four retainers under the grill. Pull the grill off.

On the driver's side, there is the plastic piece that the radiator is bolted to.

Look at where your air filter goes through the core support, and cut a hole directly in front of that.

Replace grill.

Enjoy.
