Kevin Mckenzie Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 Hello gents, Can any one help me with my gearbox problem. I cannot get any higher than 4th gear during high revs but when I am in low revs I can.The gearbox does not jump out of gear at any time. I removed the right side cover and noticed that the shift lever with the gear selector arm is not making contact with dowels for changing the gear and that there is wear on the rivet that holds the C" clip on the end. I also noticed that the rivet has touched the back of the clutch basket due to side travel of the gear shit shaft. you can push the gearshaft back in an the gears change okay. what is causing the gear shift shaft to move as the dowel on the casing is there to stop it moving to much . Thanks Kev Quote
rebelbanshee2 Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 I dont know why the shift shaft moves, but it does. the best was to keep this from happening is to make a spacer between the shifter and stator cover to keep it from slidding it. Quote
BansheeBoy17 Posted August 12, 2005 Report Posted August 12, 2005 Mine did the same exact thing last race, turns out I had no oil, it still does it whenver It gets hott, after long rides. Its super hard to shift and when the quad is stopped it doesnt shift. Quote
2twin350s Posted August 13, 2005 Report Posted August 13, 2005 i have beeen fighting this same problem all summer.it just started out of the blue. first i split the case and replaced shifting forks. that did not help. there was no damage at all with any internals. just the other day, i pulled the side cover and put a dirt digger clutch in with stock springs, my basket is mint. then i adjusted the centering pin that the shift shaft rides on. there is an adjustment for that in the clymer manual. it centers the c unit to the shift drum pins. put it back together and it shifts like normal now, my thoery is that i slip the clutch alot and i think i ruined the plates and they were sticking. check that and all your adjustments. it will probably help alot Quote
MonkeyBoy Posted August 14, 2005 Report Posted August 14, 2005 I kill shift shafts about 2 per year. It usually sticks me in third gear, making for a fun ride back to camp. I now carry a spare, and can swap one in .5 hour, without draining the trans. Quote
