if you dont wannt buy a compressor, you cant use a bunch of hose clamps. wrap for or five through the coils and tightren evenly till you have enough room to remove the coil hat.

I made a spring compressor after seeing one at a shop. The Works shocks come apart pretty easy, just compress and slide out the plate at the bottom.

Quite often, you can have a buddy compress the spring and then you can slide the plate out really quick.

Is that what your asking, or are you wanting to get into the valving?

I just clamp the shock in a vice, then run a ratchet style tie down from the top of the spring, down under the shock and back up to the top of the spring( on the other side). Worked great.
