crbanshee Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 throttle responce turned to crap and was having trouble in 5th getting into the band??? WHY??? will my jetting have an effect on this? Quote
Banshee~ Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 Is your air filter clean? Whats your jetting? Quote
crbanshee Posted July 17, 2005 Author Report Posted July 17, 2005 jetting was done by a shop so im not 100% positive..the guy sais he went with mfm recomended settings..the air filter is brand new and was the first trip with the k&n on the bike?? Quote
sredish Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 sounds like jetting. warmer weather can affect that. also, fmf's recommended jetting is not always what it should be. You need to find out what jets you have in there and get back to us if you can. I think fmf recommends a 260 main Is it sputtering or bogging? What's it doing when it gives you trouble in 5th? Quote
crbanshee Posted July 17, 2005 Author Report Posted July 17, 2005 i will check on the jet size on monday when i can call the mechanic that did the work...as far as what it is doing..well its boggy as hell and when i hit the throttle it feels like its about to die for a few seconds then it comes to life..but in 5th i can go wind 4th out till it almost explodes and goto 5th and it bogs it takes for ever to hit the band..when it hits its almost like its got a potato in the pipe..i was running with out the airbox lid and thaaught that was it...today i put the lid back on and it was a bit better but still slugish on throttle responce and bogs like hell in the upper 2 gears..i trust the guy that did the jetting,,he has been working on 2 bikes for me and he has done a kick ass job on everything up to this i never had a problem??? sredish Posted July 17, 2005 Report Posted July 17, 2005 Sounds like you need to bump your main jet up a size or two and retry. Also, read the Troubleshooting your Jetting at the top of the page for some more info. Quote
crbanshee Posted July 17, 2005 Author Report Posted July 17, 2005 i will try playing with the jett sizes today...im thinking that the air box lid being off might had a bit to do with it..but i put the lid back on and got very little change..im not hearing it suck air like it was but it still runs slugish?? Have you ran a full throttle plug check? That will give you a definite answer on what you need to do. FMF's recommendations are like a 260, but my experience is they need anywhere froma 290 to 310 at sea level. If your close to sea level, then you'll be pretty lean and putting lid back on will make minimal difference. I'd get some 290s or 300s and throw them in there and see how it runs. Also, the air is still sucking but you can't hear it with the lid on like you can when the lid is off. I run a lid with the back 2" cut off for more air but plenty of protection. Scott Quote
crbanshee Posted July 19, 2005 Author Report Posted July 19, 2005 sredish thanks a million man...i went to a 300 main and what a differance...my shee came back to life...it tryed to throw me off the back when i took her for a test run...responce is better than ever and the band is there like never before Quote
sredish Posted July 19, 2005 Report Posted July 19, 2005 Awesome!! Now, that is what this site is about, members helping members. Glad to hear it's working to your expectations now. Like I said, FMF can make pipes, but they need to leave jetting to the rest of us. What jets did you end up pulling out of it? If you have the time and just feel like screwing with it, go ahead and throw some 310s in there and just see what it does. If it sputters a little or seems a little rich, you know how the 300s run. But, richening w/o being too rich unleashes more power. A lot of the gain with pipes is being able to jet up, so going up another main size could be another horse or so, might be worth the try. Also, where is your needle clip? If it's in the third from the top, maybe try the fourth and see how it reacts, if it's a little sputtery, back it up to the one it was in before. BUT, don't do the needle AND main changes at the same time. If you do and it gets sputtery, you may not know which did which, so do them one at a time so you get a definite before and after for each change. I'm fairly comfortable that the 300s wouldn't be too rich so if your happy with it, then no prob with leaving it alone, I'm just anal with my machines when it comes to free hp. later. Quote
crbanshee Posted July 19, 2005 Author Report Posted July 19, 2005 they were 280..i didnt play with the needle yet..but im going to now..i was just happy that my baby came back to life..i think i need to take the carbs off and clean them too so when i do that im going to look at the needle and reset it and try it out..
