MILO Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 what's the best way to get this bearing out? i don't have the pilot bearing removal tool like clymer's suggests using, and so far i haven't been able to get it out without messing up the crankcase around it. any ideas or experience? Quote
fast87 Posted July 13, 2005 Report Posted July 13, 2005 i might be wrong here but you wither need to remove the seal above it, then pick it out with asomething soft like your finger, or you need to split the cases and get it out from the inside...but don't go splitting the cases just yet, get some other opinions first... ~Mark~ Quote
MILO Posted July 14, 2005 Author Report Posted July 14, 2005 you must have some really tough fingers to pull that thing out of there with them it is pressed in there pretty good. i ended up using a dremmel to get it down pretty thin then very carefully chiseled the bearing race apart and pulled it out with needle nose pliers and a little prying. i plugged the opening under it with a wrag to keep debris out, but it still needs a little cleaning from the dirt and pieces of debris that got in there while the bearing was being thrashed and falling apart to begin with. damn, it's always something with the shee. oh well, gotta pay to play i guess Quote
fast87 Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 no kidding...these beasts aren't cheap to maintain...glad you got the bearing out, it is similar to the upper rod bearing right?? but smaller or coarse...i never took mine out, just cleaned it and put in a new seal above it..i just spent 6 hours today finishing the shee, got the engine finished and in, and everything else assembled, waiting on a few things, but will be running by the endof the day , after all it's only been 5 months , 8 days to dunefest!!!! good luck with your banshee and may it run as well as mine(should) ~Mark~ Quote
