Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 Came accross this statement today that was both interesting and funny: "Metals are elastic materials that can only withstand a certain number of stress cycles. Going beyond that number is not wise. Unfortunately, that number is determined by experience - the driver is the only person who knows what conditions he/she has subjected the engine to. Unlike a baby that will start crying when its diaper needs changing, the two stroke engine will start spewing parts to indicate its "feelings." It's better to change the "disposables" a little early to prevent them from getting s(p)oiled." ... Rare. Quote

Rare. 389959[/snapback] Thats a pretty good point!Everything is either just fine or its blown up it seems. That is also a good reason to not let anyone take your bike. Only the rider knows what the engine has been subject to. I had a set of rings last about 4 years, 2 of those years were heavy/medium riding and the other 2 years was very little riding. I got a fresh top end now though. Quote
80overShee Posted July 8, 2005 Report Posted July 8, 2005 I cant remember where, but I read that before also. "Only you can prevent forest fires" type of statement but it is entirely true. I realized this today when a "friend" asked if he could "borrow" my Shee for the weekend to ride while on vacation. He is notoriously hard on everything and I wouldnt let him borrow a baseball bat I use for clobbering groundhogs (just an analogy). I started thinking...."what would HE break that I wouldnt" (everythign) I am not trying to say that he rides harder than I do, but he rides differently and mostly incorrectly......and doesn't give a rats @$$ since its not his. You woudn't let someone else f*** your girl, why woud you let em f*** your Shee. Quote
