i got 4 degree key from vito, and it doesn't seam to want to stay in the groove (spline). it doesn't seam to want to sit flat in there. i called them and they said they never had any problems with them, is there a trick to getting this in there. i can put the stock one back in with no problem and assembly.

any advice on this would be helpful, i now realize i can get an adjustable one for 35.00 from what i've been reading here. that probably would have been easier.

thanks

I didn't have any problems from mine, but can tell you not to run it if it doesn't fit right. You could risk the possibility of having it shear off and can result in more issues. I would go ahead and get the timing plate though, allows for more adjustment with less worries

Take the tip from Sick Boy.

As long as the key doesn't interfere with the taper fit, it should be ok.

The taper is designed to take all the load, the key only indexes the flywheel to the crank and should not bear any of the load.

You have to ensure that the fit and contact between the crank and flywheel is correct.

If you are still in doubt, just slot the mounting holes of the stator plate.

A good description is given in BenBB's Electrical FAQ, the link is in his sig.
