There should be a washer lock behind the sprocket the folds over the nut to keeps it from rotating.. Kinda looks like a big washer that has one side that folds up to the nut...

Personally I wouldnt run my bike without the correct washer. The washer has some notches in it where the grooves fit onto the shaft. When you install the washer you need to make sure that the grooves line up when you are tightening the nut.

ya i had it on there right. when i was putting it on i made sure that it was in the groves. i was amazed when i noticed it was gone. i thought i blew my front sprocket right off or apart. also on my sprocket there is threaded holes. for those can i take a thin washer and bolt it onto that and then bend two sides up? i would order one from yamy but the closest dealer is 3 hours away and would take 3 days to get here

i believe you torque the nut to about 60 foot lbs. then you take a hammer and a screw driver and bend part of the washer over one of the sides of the nut so the nut can not come off. its hapen to me before out on the ice it suck.
