sheefreak Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Is it possible that if I switch plug caps around and problem stays on same side that I have an electrical problem, and if so can someone explain why? Starts like shit, then once I get it started, if I just barely open the throttle up and hold it steady, cuts in and out on left side, does a little popping. But once I get into it, it seems to pep right up. The only thing I haven't done is check reeds on that side, which I will do tonight. Just want some opinions. Thanks. Quote
NEVER SATISFIED Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 hrmmmm!!! does it blow out cold smoke at low rpm ... then when you get into it at high rpm seems to fire up ok? Quote
sheefreak Posted June 20, 2005 Author Report Posted June 20, 2005 Actually, it doesn't make any sense to me, but that side seems to be hot all the time, even when it is misfiring. But what do you have in mind? Quote
NEVER SATISFIED Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 PILOT JET CLOGGED.. my first guess then go from there. Quote
sheefreak Posted June 20, 2005 Author Report Posted June 20, 2005 Already completely went through the carbs, disconnected the tors, replaced spark plugs, I am running 340's, so I know I am not lean, and problem started all the sudden. It didn't get progressively worse. Mechanically I have all bases covered except for the reeds. I really need to know if it is possible to have an electrical problem if problem does not follow spark plug leads when I switch them. Quote

eehsnab2 Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 If you are running aftermarket reeds it may also be possible that you may be sucking air somewhere too especially if you are running reed spacers too. When you check the reeds make sure to seal up those reed cages really tight. Quote
DuneRoller Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 I had a very similar problem on mine a few months ago and it turned out to be a head gasket. Might be worth checking. Quote
sheefreak Posted June 21, 2005 Author Report Posted June 21, 2005 Thanks for all the suggestions guys, and thanks especially NEVER SATISFIED for the offer on the reeds. Did a compression test on that cylinder and it came back at 75 psi, 35 less than right side. Opened her up and found the rings were fused in the ring landings toward the exhaust side flush w/piston skirt . Bummed me out cause I am spending a week at Silver Lake starting this coming weekend. But the beauty is, I bought My girl a nice "R" for her birthday this year, so I still have a decent quad to ride. Guess I just won't be doing any drag raceing. Quote
