Ok.. needs some thoughts one this one. I just put on my FMF SST's and need some assistance with jetting. Currently I have 310 Mains, Stock Pilot, Stock Needle & Clip Position.

Fires right up and idles fine, but is smoking more than it did before. Now after it warms up, If I pin the throttle with it sitting there (not riding) it revs up maybe 3/4 of the way and just bogs.. with smoke pouring out everywhere!!! Yikes! Think I am a little rich? What should I try first? Dropping a size on the mains, or adjusting the needle position? :shrugani:

I am at sea lvl, 75 degrees.

Side note... whats the best way to change the jets? Currently (no tors) i just loosen the intake boots and swivel the carbs while their still on the bike, is this how you all do it? or is it better to take the carbs off the bike completly to jet?

310 mains sound perfect with the lid off, is yours? Im having the same problem, im at 320 mains, 30 pilot (going down to 27.5) and im having a bog in the mid range. I put on a coolhead with 21cc domes and that fixed it at 80 degrees, its going to be in the 90's next week. Also, I was talking to sandtrax in tulsa, and I told him my mods and everything and he said he would leave the pilot stock and put a dynojet needle in there. You might try leaning out the needle clip position.

I'm running SSTs with 300 mains, same stock needle and clip position, 30 pilots, and don't have a problem, but my airbox lid is still on. Pretty similar riding conditions also.

Well.. i leaned out the needle (2nd from the blunt end) and it seemed to have a little better throttle response but is still blowin smoke like a son-of-a-bitch. I am just going to do a couple WOT runs and see how it works.... headin out to the desert on Friday to get this all worked out.

Well.. took it out yesterday + today.. and WOT seems perfect, however 1/2 to 3/4 seems really boggy.. almost dies on me in that range.. .1/4 is fine.. heres what I have:

310 Mains

Stock Pilot

Stock Needle 2nd position from the blunt end

Any suggestions?

Also.. I did did a WOT run on new plugs.. and I cannot see any ring in there.. i havent cut the threads off yet... but i can see down there and its all white... possibly my WOT didnt work right? I just pinned it all the way through 6th and held it for about 10 seconds WOT in 6th.. pulled the clutch and killed it.

Airscrews are out 1.5 turns.. i just tried 2 turns.. same thing.. could the needle be too lean?

Also.. what do you think of my WOT plugs? Below are the chopped plugs.. and I looking good on them?

Thanks for all the help guys.. im new at all this stuff.

PS. On my first run with the new pipes.. I met a new shee! WOW do pipes make a hell of a difference!!!

Plug looks good.

Put the clip back in the middle slot on the needle.

Your air screws don't do anything after 1/4 throttle. 1.5 out seems about right.

You needle controls about 1/4 to roughly 3/4...with the main coming in right before 3/4.

So...I'd say you're darned close on your main. Play with the needle clip a bit.

Yep, pipes are the single best thing you can do to a shee from stock. Next is porting..that really wakes her up!!
