ilikeike Posted June 7, 2005 Report Posted June 7, 2005 To all out there: Is it possible to have 2 different settings for the air/fuel mixture screw on each carb (Mikuni racing, I believe)? The problem is that I have been fouling plugs, and one side has been wetter than the other. First off, here's what I have been told. The optimal setting is to turn the air/fuel screw all the way in first, and then out 3.75 turns. 4 is richer with fuel, 3 is leaner. I set both to 3.25 turns out because I was having very wet spark plugs, and then I rode it for a while. BTW, the pistons have been bored 40 over. Here's my dilemma: Left side plug: wet and black after riding, more smoke comes out the left pipe Right side plug: nice color of brown, very little smoke out the right pipe I had no problem riding for an hour or so. Now I want to know if I can adjust the air/fuel mixture independently of each other so that I 1) don't foul plugs on one hand and 2) don't lock up a piston on the other. I guess that I would adjust the wetter side lower to around 3 turns outward and the right dryer side out to 3.5 turns outward. Does this make sense? I'm new to the game, but very willing to learn, so I'm all ears. Thanks a bunch for your posts in advance, -Mark PS: I know that since the engine had been bored that there could be the possibility that the seals/gaskets have a leak in them. Nonetheless, I'm looking to finish riding (not hard riding) in a month and a half, and then tear the top end down. Quote
ilikeike Posted June 9, 2005 Author Report Posted June 9, 2005 One more thing: Fuel is 45:1 of 100% synthetic oil. Basically: can the air/fuel mixture screws be changed individually to allow both carbs to put out the same puffs of smoke? And, will it be harmful to the machine overall? Quote
SANDSTAR Posted June 9, 2005 Report Posted June 9, 2005 The carbs should be in sync. Alot of Banshees smoke more on one side. You need to perform a plug chop (do a search on here) and see where your jetting is. What plugs are you running? You might just need to rejet. Quote
