nickt5174 Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 The cdi is shot on my bike. i have an older year j-arm style banshee and i notice that the conectors are diffrent then the newer bikes. Would i be able to buy a newer year cdi box and just splice in the connectors. New box are like $300 for my year, and nobody has them. I see newer ones on ebay all the time but the older ones wth my specifc connector thanks guys Quote
mud91 Posted May 24, 2005 Report Posted May 24, 2005 how did you know your cdi is shot. I trying to check mine Quote
nickt5174 Posted May 24, 2005 Author Report Posted May 24, 2005 I used the great information that i found on this site to trouble shoot the entier electrical system for my bike and everything checked out fine with the exception of the cdi. Why, becuase there is no test for the cdi, its an electrical componet that ither works or it doesn't. So now do I drop $300 on a new one or can I figure out a better way to fix this issue. Quote
wayfst Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 cdi box's won't just quit, mess up your timing (oh yea!), but they are solid state and sealed. without physical damage you should still get spark. stators test good all the time and don't produce. Quote
2strokesmoke Posted May 25, 2005 Report Posted May 25, 2005 cdi do just go out mine did and i was able to switch the plugs offa newer one and saveda couple hundred Quote
wayfst Posted May 28, 2005 Report Posted May 28, 2005 I have to apologize! My brother-in-law's Banshee was brought to me without any spark and I checked the stator, which tested fine, and since there was no history of the CDI screwing up on this bike, I went ahead and changed the stator and tested the secondary coil. To my surprise, there was still no spark. I changed the CDI box and lo and behold--spark! CDI boxes do, indeed, just stop working. My bad. Quote
