gixxer_sixxer Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 Is there any extended A-arm makers that will allow the use of factory stocks or factory-lenght shocks? Or do they all require after-markets. Quote
Donoyfz450 Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 If you get standard travel arms you can use your stockers but it will be alot softer. I have a YFZ with Houser +2" arms and Im running the stock shocks(for now) they work pretty good but are definitely softer than stock, Once I upped my preload and played with the settings it worked great. But they are revalved to work with the extra leverage put on them from moving the wheels out further. You can put your stock shocks back on with extended arms, but it won't work very well. The front end will be soft and will also drop a couple of inches. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 most extended arms can use stock shocks, and like said befroe they make the ride softer, but im a lighter rider (150 pounds) so it actually worked out really good for me. Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 so are lt shocks the same length as stock shocks but have more travel or what? cause that would work out great for me if they were cause i could buy a set of elkas and run em with my stock a-arms until i saved up enough for new a-arms Quote
jaysea1 Posted May 8, 2005 Report Posted May 8, 2005 YOU can do that in the mean time, but it will ride stiff on stock length arms Quote
racer Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 so are lt shocks the same length as stock shocks but have more travel or what? 366448 nah, they longer. most are anywhere from 18.5 - 19.5in depending on application. Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 YOU can do that in the mean time, but it will ride stiff on stock length arms 366454 but its still do-able and it wont wreck the shocks or anything? Quote
Banshee~ Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 but its still do-able and it wont wreck the shocks or anything? 366529 freestyler, I think you would be just fine with double rate elka's. I would just get the both at the same time. Quote
bansheefreestyler Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 whats the diff between double rate and lt? is lt like triple rate and quad rate or what? Quote
Donoyfz450 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 (edited) whats the diff between double rate and lt? is lt like triple rate and quad rate or what? 366597 double rate would be two springs hence two different rates,,and so on with triple rate and quadrates. they offer lighter spring tension for smaller bumps and still have the bigger springs for jumping and such. the YFZ has a variable rate spring which is what most quads come with,,,,Its basically a single rate design but with different winding to soften them slightly. there not nearly as good as dual, triple or quad rates though. Oh and elka doesnt offer a double rates for the front,,,,,,,their lowest end shock is a standard triple rate. I think the only company that offers a double rate front springs are works. bansheefreestyler Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 ya i was thinking about going with the new elka track shocks but i duno yet Quote
jaysea1 Posted May 9, 2005 Report Posted May 9, 2005 Actually Elka does offer dual rate shocks for the front. Their rec shocks or dune edition shocks come dual rate I believe, and are about 450$ a pair, check out their web site... Quote
Donoyfz450 Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 heres a link to Elkas website,,,triplerate is the lowest they offer. Im ordering some through wicked motorsports,,,$440 shipped Quote
jaysea1 Posted May 10, 2005 Report Posted May 10, 2005 Go to ELKASUSPENSION.COM, look at the recreational series, they come triple or dual rate. The dune shocks I'm sure offer the same. For 450$, i would think those are dual rates. Quote
