reknelb Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 A buddy of mine picked up a banshee a few weeks ago. He's in the process of putting all new bushings and bearings in the chassis. I told him he should have a look at the jetting because it didnt seem like it started very good and it doesn't want to idle at all. So I was over and pulled one carb off to have a look, the slide was in backwards. Cutaway was facing the engine So, I pulled both carbs, opened them both up. Mains were 230, middle/3rd clip on stock needle, 27.5 pilots, 1.2 turns on air screw. Float height was a little low (.790" spec=.800"-.880") 300-600 ft above sea level, avg. temp 55-75 F. Stock timing, 50/50 mix 40:1. I think he's running that castor927. Reeds were good, new plugs. Engine has fresh top-end .5mm over wiseco's, v-force 2 , .010" milled off head, fmf pipes and silencers, k+n filter in box with lid. I think the pipes are gnarleys, they are the black painted ones not the nikle plated. I'm not really familiar with the effects some of these mods would have on the banshee engine. On my dirt bike, aftermarket reed cages and pipes tend to need leaner jetting. Just from reading the forum here I can see that is not true with the SHee. What effect would the milled head have as far as jetting is concerned? I slapped some 240 mains in, left the needle in the middle, left the pilots 27.5, turned the air screws to 1.5, and set the float height to .850" Think that will be ok for a starting point, or should i have him throw some bigger mains in? Seems like alot of folks here are running 270-300 mains, should I have him start somewhere in that range? Quote
89Steeda Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 When my bike was setup like this one, I ran 280's at sea level. Quote
superchicken Posted April 23, 2005 Report Posted April 23, 2005 (edited) maybe a 270ish main with the airbox lid on.300 off.3rd clip down and 2 turns on the air scews.that should be a good starting point.make sure the carbs are synced ,or shee wont idle that good.run her and see if it breaks up or bogs.after running her on a high speed pass shut her down and look at the plugs Edited April 23, 2005 by superchicken Quote

Want to get it idling and starting a little better first. He's gonna grab some jets and we'll start with 280's. Thanks for the suggestions, the 240 just seemed a little lean after doing some searches in this jetting section. Feel free to keep giving suggestions for this set-up or had experience with a similar set-up. Quote
Banshee~ Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I would start with 300 mains and 30 pilots, 1.5 turns out. Im not sure on the clip position, I think you have to go a clip leaner when you add reed cages. Ive got pipes, lid off,80-90degrees,32:1,1000ft. above. I run 320 mains 30 pilots, 2.5 turns out. Quote

You could end up at 280 or 310. I'm kind of with Banshee on the main and would try some 300s, but I think 30s might be a bit steep. Keep the 27.5's in there and then see how she does after the main change. If it's starting bad, see if it gets better or worse when you pull the choke (with it running) Be sure to give us updates...
