BansheeMT Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 last week i changed the oil in my tranny i went from maxima 85 wt. to maxima 80 wt. Then i went out to Dumont and when ever is started climbing it would start slippin then grab really hard. when it slipped my engine never reved up at all. Would that have anything to do with putting a lighter wt oil in it? and if it was the clutch slipping wouldn't rev up? Also i heard there are pins in the tranny that might not be engauging all the way.. I need some ideas of where to start, dont want to buy a bunch of new stuff if its as simple as the oil. I Dont Think Your Transmission Oil Viscosity Has Anything To Do With Your Problems. My Friend Was Just Here Riding With Me In Kentucky And He Burned His Clutch Up, It Wouldnt Rev. High He Just Couldnt get up Any Hills. He Would Try To Climb Hills And Just Stall out. First I Would Check The Free Play At The Clutch Lever. This Should Be(10-15m.m. or 0.4-0.6in.) If That Dont Work There Is A Adjustment On The Center Of The Clutch Basket. The Clutch Push Lever Mark Should Align With The Raised Mark On The Crankcase. You Really Need A Clymers Manual If You Do Not Have One. It Will Give You All The Info You Need. Edited April 13, 2005 by Banshee 79 Quote
MILO Posted April 13, 2005 Report Posted April 13, 2005 doesn't really sound like the clutch to me if shee didn't rev at all when you felt the power loss, but more like just a miss. if it's your clutch, you'd most likely notice it slipping when you shift, especially in about 3rd and up. i'd clean the air filter and carbs, maybe throw in some new plugs before diving into the clutch. there is little difference between 85 and 80 wt, especially when sticking with the same brand. that shouldn't have hurt anything.
