watkins Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 (edited) Ok.. here is a really stupid one for ya... but.. hopefully you can help me out... how do tire sizes change the way a bike rides? I mean I am looking to replace my stock tires and am confused on the sizing.. example what is the difference between rear: 20x11x9 & 22x11x9... also what are the .125, .160, .190's that i see and what do they really mean? I really am confused on how bigger or smaller tires affect performance and such. Lastly any recommendations for brands on paddles and trail tires.. i am thinkin Razr II for the trails.. and im not sure about paddles.. but any insight would be great. bansheefreestyler Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 the difference between 20x11x9 and 22x11x9 is the height of the tire. (.125, .160, .190) these are strengths. .125 would be for someone who just rides around not doing anything. .160 would be for someone who doesnt ride too hard but still rides a lil aggressive. .190 would be for someone who is iinto mx or racing and puts the quad through alot. hope that helps Quote
wodeman Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 The first number is the DIAMETER of the tire, the bigger the number the taller the tire. The second number is the WIDTH of the tire. The third number is the DIAMETER of the RIM. The .125, .160 and .190 are the thickness of the material (in inches) of the wheel. So .125 is the thinnest/weakest (for casual riding) the .190 are the thickest/strongest (jumping). Tire diameter can definately affect acceleration and/or top speed. Shorter diameter (say a 20) will give you quicker acceleration, less top speed in the LONG run. Taller diameter will overall give you a little less acceleration and higher top speed. Shorter diameter will generate more wheel speed, especially with paddles in the sand. Since I mostly ride in sand, I recommend going with the SKAT TRAK haulers 20X10X10 9 paddle. Quote

Skat Trak is all I run in the sand. 22x11x8 I prefer the 8 inch rim rather than the 10 inch. Seems to be a smoother ride. Quote
MILO Posted April 4, 2005 Report Posted April 4, 2005 here's a note that i saved from somewhere once: The numbers on an ATV tire are very important. If the tire that you have is a 22x11x8; The 22 stands for the tire being 22 inches tall. The 11 stands for the tire being 11 inches wide , 8 means the tire is to be mounted on an 8-inch rim. Atv tires have some leeway in sizing just make sure that the last number is the same or you Quote
