MILO Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 i've seen on here where lots of guys will change their oil after every ride the instructions with my new hinson basket states to do that also. WHY?? surely the oil doesn't break down that quickly. i understand if you race, of any sort, to eliminate problems as much as possible considering the constant pounding, but why in the world would need to do it that often otherwise. if you get that much debris in your oil after one ride than you have other problems that you need to address. 1800bigk Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 holy shit every ride!! I use the oil yamaha says to use and I change it when the book says to. Quote
BenBB Posted March 30, 2005 Report Posted March 30, 2005 Most likely because there's no filtration system for the oil like on a 4-choke where the engine oil is common with the tranny, that and keeping the oil changed frequently will keep deposits from forming on the clutch plates extending it's life pretty well. It's less than 2 quarts, isn't shee worth it? Heh I change mine roughly every month, which is typically after one desert race (or hard ride) and one short ride... Quote
MILO Posted March 31, 2005 Author Report Posted March 31, 2005 i usually change mine about 2-3 times during my normal riding season, late march- early october. but i'm lucky to get out for a few hours a week, and a poker run here and there, so there's really not all that much time on it. i thought guys that just changed it after every ride were a little nuts, then i saw in my hinson papers that you should. yeah, it's really not that expensive vs. the damage that could occur from poor maintenance, but i guess it all depends on what you put it thru too. thanks for the input BenBB.
