jeepin247us Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I am having a little trouble with my bro's warrior...it is popping and backfiring from 1/2 to WOT. So the first thing I thought was that it was too lean so I had him pull the choke out to the first notch and take it for a ride again and it actually got worse. he put a weisco hi performance piston, k&n filter, hot cam, and a white brothers exaust on it running 6 rings i believe. as it's running the head pipe in my opinion gets abnormally hot which also makes me think its too lean....but again the choke pull test made it run worse. I'm also sure that the timing is set correctly on it so I'm stuck on what else to do... I'm pretty new to this forum and I have to say it's really great how much people try to help each other out when they are having troubles. Thanks alot in advance!!!! Quote
Rare Scottish Tree Badger Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 (edited) Valve settings and timing ok? This is what I did to a warrior piston on a mate's bike. As soon as I got on it I knew something was wrong, but thought it was just something simple and slightly out of tune. I ran the bike for about half an hour on a trail having to back off the throttle to get any power as it got worse. I was in top when starting to climb a hill and dropped a gear, but within seconds, BOOOF!! That was it. ...... Turned out to be a bent valve that was the cause, chapping away at the piston until it snapped! Rare. Spot the valve! >>>>> Edited March 22, 2005 by rare_scottish_tree_badger Quote
jeepin247us Posted March 22, 2005 Author Report Posted March 22, 2005 Holy crap man!!! I hope I don't run into that problem!!! We put all those parts on his bike at the beginning of last season and it runs fine for the most part, starts right up, idles fine and it does do ok when he takes off at a moderate speed. I'm positive that the timing is sweet on it because that was one of the first things I checked when we ran into the problem so I dunno... maby I'll just take a fiew plates off the exaust and see how it does seeing as how that thing is freking unbearably loud as it is... he may lose a little performance but it's better than possibly having to deal with the problem above. Hot cam, K&N, Exhaust, and if the airbox lid is removed you're looking at quite a few moves up on your main jets. (If it was a Banshee, you'd be looking at 12 - 16 moves on the mains and a couple on the pilots). I don't think you have my problem, definitely sounds like fuelling . I just added it 'cos it's the only trip I've done on a Warrior. Rare. Quote
jeepin247us Posted March 22, 2005 Author Report Posted March 22, 2005 I should have torn the thing apart to gather all the info I could before I had posted this...We ended up going to one of the local shops and they recommended the main jet size for him and that's what he's been using...I can't remember what I ate for dinner last week let alone what size jet that we put in there a year ago. We didn't change the pilot at all, and I'm pretty sure that we went up on the needle one notch. Give me a couple days and I'll get in there and gather all the right info so I can try to get this thing fixed. I did look at his exaust earlier today and he actually has 12 plates on it instead of 6 like i thought. Thanks Quote
slowpokebanshee Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 I built a Warrior similar to yours for my wife, so let me know if you need anything, I have a bunch of different main jets also, I believe I ended up going one up on the pilot, and a 165 main jet stock needle position. runs great, if you need main jets to try out ask me I will send them out if I have the size. what I do remember is that therer is a chicken shit ground on or near the reverse lever, and if it is loose or corroded, your ignition system cuts in and out.? maybe check that... jeepin247us Posted March 24, 2005 Author Report Posted March 24, 2005 Tore into it last night and the pilot is 42.5 (i'm assuming this is stock cause we didn't change it???) needle in middle notch and the main is 155 we are about 500-750 ft. ASL looks like I'm a bit leaner than your setup Slowpoke so I'm gonna try your setup and see what happens...are you around the same elivation as me? Quote
slowpokebanshee Posted March 24, 2005 Report Posted March 24, 2005 I only ride two places, Glamis, and San Felipe, both at Sea-Level...also I had a pro-flow, w/K&N filter, and ditched the air box lid, and a 15 t front sprocket. Quote
