2004LEBanshee Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 A month ago I was riding in like 7 degree weather and over a bunch of un packed snow. The problem that I was haveing was after a while one of my carbs was geting stuck. The slide was getting stuck in the open position. In fact when I took the tops off, it took considerable force to push them back down. IT WAS STUCK. But once I would get it free it would slide fine for a while then after some riding it would freeze again. I think they were getting frozen from snow hitting my engine an evaperating causing moisture to my carbs causing them to freeze. It happend 3 time on a trail before that day before I could get my bike back to the truck. To fix my bike I had to take the carbs apart 3 times on the trail. So now I am sure there is dirt in there and probabably more moisture. This weekend I am planing a trip to go riding and I dont want to bother with this again. My question is: I want to take my carbs off and soak them in carb cleaner. Will this hurt my gaskets for the float bowl or any thing else? Also should I grease or oil the slide when I put it back together to prevent the chance for a cold weather freeze. IT should be a 20-30 degree high. What else could I do to prevent this. Thanks. Jason. Quote
racer Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 you could stop riding in the cold for one thing. yeah, some of the more caustic cleaners will eat gaskets. and you may want to remove the floats also, i dont know how they will be affected. im not really sure on why they would stick lke that, maybe it is because of the dirt, i dunno. but im sure after having them apart for that many times on the trail, a little cleaning couldnt hurt a thing. willow2679 Posted March 8, 2005 Report Posted March 8, 2005 If youre going to soak them in carb cleaner you have to disaasemble them all and put ONLY the body take care all the parts are off and clean that small parts with other thing, then wipe it with air Quote
