I am still a rookie on this buisness and I need some help.

I have a 2004 banshee, FMF SST pipes, K&N Filter w/outweare, boysen reeds, and the last mod I made was taking the air filter lid off. I am still trying to find the proper jetting which I think I am handling pretty well.

<_< But somebody told me that removing the lid will cause way TOO MUCH air flow, and that may overheat my engine. Is this true? how can I know when the engine is overheated? How can I prevent the engine from that problem without going into the cool heads?

You Will Just Have To Rejet Properly For The Increased Airflow And You Will Have No Problems At All. Just Be Careful In The Mud. Your Airlid Holds Your Air Filter On So Make Sure You Bought A kit To Hold Your Airfilter On And You Will Be Good To Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Banshee 79 is correct. Just rejet to compensate for the increased airflow and you will be fine. I am assuming the reason the person said it would overheat is because if you didnt rejet this woud cause the motor to run lean, thus overheating.

If you want to take the lid off i highly recomend that you get a proflow adaptor. Without the lid you are not going to have a proper seal, and alot of shit could get in there. If you need one i have one for sale shot me a PM if your interested.

If you are jeted perfectly now, when you take the lid off, go up 2 main sizes and it will basically run the same as it is now with a little better performance. It isn't a huge change at all, but definitly enough to need to rejet the mains and noticeable seat of the pants performance boost. You may also need to adjust the airscrews in about 1/2 turn or so to richen the idle back up a hair so it starts and idles the same as before.

a good tip for the lid is to cut out a very large oval so that theres only a 1/2 "allaround and basically a plastic frame of a lid and then bolt the filter mounting plate to the airbox face ,the lid holds the filter securely and this way you wont have to worry about the filter becoming unseated and sucking grit into your carbs :bolt:

i agree with white trash shee rider. get a pro flow adapter and filters. the seal will be 10x better to the airbox and the filters are much better than the stock pos. again, rejet accordingly and you'll be fine. don't forget, you'll have to check and clean your filters more often too without the lid on. and be careful if you get into deep water that may flow over and into your airbox. remove the drain cap on the bottom of the box just in case so it will drain out quickly. and head to the jetting and exhaust forums for more on proper jetting, and do a search on it. B)

and welcome to the HQ!
