Hey Led, if you want to make the big bank you may look into working for Cerner. I believe they are based out of Kansas also. They are a fortune 500 company and they specialize in operating systems for hospitals (computer charts). They will train you to program their systems. Once you become proficient in their system you can then become and independent contractor which is an option if interested. These guys make big dollars. My brother has done this for several years. Going rate minimum for these jobs is 85 an hour to a max of around 200 an hour. So definitely some good money to be made in this field. You just have to get your training through Cerner and get qualified to program their system.

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm not dead set on this yet. I'm really considering just collecting unemployement for a while, sell the ex's EX and buy me a decent Roland Graphic Printer & start my graphics biz like I've talked about for some time. Don't want to invest in a $30,000 quite yet, but if I can start doing alright with smaller applications i.e. dirtbikes/atv's & it works out; I'll be applying for some federal grants & will invest in some bigger equipment & move on from there. And, doing this would be cheaper than going back to school...for the time-being anyway. :shrugani: Desicions Desicions...and did I ever mention my ex is a lying, two-faced, raging, soon to be bloated like her mother, swamp-sow from hell!?<_<

I don't think you mentioned the bloated sow part... Anyways, being a CNC programmer, you NEED the experience in the machining end of things. Nothing can compare, or be replaced by it. This, has been supported by others in the field. The graphics thing you mentioned, sounds like it could be a good deal. i know a few people that went that route, and seem to be very successful. INdustries thrive in some areas, and fail in others. You know the market in your area better than I, but keep in mind that you have ot like what you do. Sometimes Money isn't everything. But it sure is fun!!! I am in the middle of a career change myself. I am sick of my current job, and preparing for a change.

Right on boonman, I completely understand. That's why I dunno if I want to spend money on more schooling for it, when I really don't know exactly what I'd be getting into. :shootself:

I'm basically starting a new life...I've always wanted to own my own business & have talked about doing graphics concentrating on the atv/dirtbike/ORV/Race market for some time, just haven't had time to do it. Well since I'm going to be sitting at home collecting un-employment, why not see if I can do some custom graphics on the side for some extra cash & see if I want and/or will be able to proceed with an actual business.? Not like I got shit to lose really... :shrugani: And I figure if I'm going to start a business, probably oughta do it while Bush is in office. So what are going to be doing now?

whatever you pick, put your heart and soul into it and youll be sucsessful and if your business fails then you know what not to do for the next one you start ,the richest and most successful people didnt listen to what everybody told them, they had balls and just did it and really put alot into it regardless of the outcome .bill gates and donald trump had to start somewhere .when i would go to vo- tech to learn tool and die ,the class genius's would heckle us and call us vo tards and say we were wasteing our time learning a blue collar trade .one of those so called"genius" hecklers is a teller at my local bank where i cash my paychecks every wednesday. he gets to see my bring home for a week is probably equal to what his monthly pay is.when i started tool and die at a shop at 17 yrs old i had to sweep the floors and people would throw shit and laugh at me as i passed by there work areas .now i am the most respected in the shop and the only time people confront to me is to ask a question because they need my help.whatever you decide good luck either way it sounds liek youve goit a good head on your shoulders and youll do just fine in life :headbang:

Machining is an awsome thing to get into. I take machining schooling and i really enjoy it. One of the best things about it is how many diffrent way there are to go with your knowledge and experince with machining. cnc machines have taken over basicly all old school mills and lathes so a cnc programmer is the way to go. Its prettty easy to learn and a pretty cool job. Gl man in whatever you decide to do
