1redram Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Has anyone bent the frame at the top steering stem mount? I had a little spilll last weekend and the steering stem and frame( where it mounts at) were smashed into the gas tank. All the other damage is easy to repair I am just not sure on the frame. Thanks, Nathan Quote
BdBanshee Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 I have had the same thing happen. Chained the banshee between 2 gate posts and pulled the frame back into shape. That part of the frame needs to be reinforced with gussets. I have seen several pics posted on here of frames with gussets added in that area. Quote
Holyman Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 Chains, Hammers, Come alongs... whatever it takes. The good thing is the tank usually prevents the "hoop" from getting bent to the point of breaking off. Quote

RNBRAD Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 A couple nylon strap, a come-a-long, a 2lb rubber mallet all will help it get right back into shape. You may have to reweld the corner braces if you crack the old welds. Also tie the shee to something sturdy from the backside to hold it on place. Quote
Blacksmith Posted February 16, 2005 Report Posted February 16, 2005 If you have a port-a-power or a highlift jack you can use the length to push on the loop from the swing arm pivot. This eliminates the need to tie the bike down. I also help get some upward force on the loop as well. Good Luck Quote
1redram Posted February 17, 2005 Author Report Posted February 17, 2005 Thanks for all the info fellas. I may try to get to it this weekend and see how it goes. I guess I am not the only person to get a little wild on my bike? Nathan Quote
jadaven Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 When I bent my hoop I used a big friggin hammer to un bend it. It took likw 2 min. Had to beat the shyt out of it. It was a task just to get the tank out to do it but when in doubt hit it with a BFH. Quote
stu Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 when in doubt hit it with a BFH. 325677[/snapback] i think everyone on the hq has the same ideas! a BFH and a blow torch and you can do anything! stu Quote

Wassup350 Posted February 18, 2005 Report Posted February 18, 2005 My buddy did that to his YFZ the last race. We stuck a 2x4 down into the frame so that it was standing infront of the steering stem mounting. The hooked some ratchet straps and pulled it back into shape. Quote
