BigRed350x Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 Im getting stuck in 6th and it is really freaking hard to kick from 2nd into 1st. 2, 3, 4, 5 all shift fine between themselves. I checked the shift star, its all good. The tolerances on the little thingy that grabs the shift star are good. I am thinking it is either the shift drum getting worn out (87 model) or the shift forks or one or both of the little bars they ride on. Anyone have similar problems with getting stuck in certain gears? I hope its not the drum cause those are pricy. Quote
Wallrat Posted January 30, 2005 Report Posted January 30, 2005 It's probably your shift forks. The drum is pretty much foolproof so not too likely that it got damaged. The forks on the other hand can and will bend as well as just get worn out. Since you'll have to split the cases to replace em, are you gonna go stroker? Quote
BigRed350x Posted January 31, 2005 Author Report Posted January 31, 2005 Already a stroker. I have another two shees sitting behind the barn that aren't though. Quote
fixitrod Posted February 1, 2005 Report Posted February 1, 2005 If the forks get put in toward the motor the pin that holds the fork can get hung up on the shift star. Man that sounds like jiberish. I bent mine in on accident once while working on it and it was the same way. That, and the shift fork adjuster being loose and not letting the forks grab the star correctly. That's all I can think of as far as external tranny parts. Quote
