BigDaddyK Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 I installed my toomey's and put in 280's put the stock needle on the 4th clip. T-5's and snorkel removed are my only mod. It's about 30-40 degrees out here. Should I just buy some bigger jets or not. I really wanna ride BAD. Quote
sredish Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 You need to run a plug check to find out. At those temps, a 290 or 300 might be more suited, but I'd at least give it a try, see how she's running. I don't jet with the bike off, I jet with it running, to see the plugs and feel how shee's running. Quote
ledofthezep Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 I agree...may jump up a size or 2 on the jets. It's always better to start rich than lean when jetting... Quote
bigboybanshee Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 You should be just fine, especially with the airbox lid on there. At absolute worst you may be a tad lean depending on what your elevation is...but not too lean to where you'd mess anything up. I ran 280 mains with my Toomey's at sea level and the jetting was dead on. Do check your plugs though..... Smart choice on keeping the stock needles! Quote

05bansh Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 You should be pretty close to where you need to be, I am running 280's with the clip on the 4th notch. Just do a plug check after wot. Quote
richybanshee Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 For the temp you mention I think you may need to go up to at least 300 mains. Another thing, How high form sea level do you ride? This is also a factor. Quote
BigDaddyK Posted January 28, 2005 Author Report Posted January 28, 2005 I am sitting right around sea level. I'm at Cherry Point, NC. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 If you're right at sea level, go do a couple WOT passes and check your plugs with the 280's. I wouldn't go up to a 290 before checking your plugs with the 280's first. If the 280's are a little lean, go ahead and slap the 290's in there. My Toomey's didn't like the 290's in the higher RPM's, shee spit and sputtered, ran like shit. I also have the same airbox setup as you do at sea level. Quote
Ducman Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 I'd run it. Check the plugs, but I bet your right where you want to be at those temps with the stock filter and lid on. I ran 260 mains down to 50 degrees, sealevel, with FMF's stock filter, lid on, snorkel off and it was just a tad lean, but nowhere near piston melting lean. Quote
