2stroke_addict Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 they both suck at filtering, even with the goddamn pre-filter i still found small specks of dust past the filter, soooooo i am going to dump them for good. I am switching to foam. And yes i installed them correctly and paid attention to detail as well. k&N if you're watching your filters are good at air flow intake but you fail miserably at filtering not even outwears can save you, so please do us all a favor and make a better sucker. 2stroke_addict Posted January 3, 2005 Author Report Posted January 3, 2005 was this in dusty conditions in dirt or in sand, what size carbs? 301468[/snapback] yes it was in dusty conditions (sand dunes) the carbs are stock with 320 mains Quote
bigboybanshee Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 You know, I'm pretty much in the same boat you are with the K&N filter. I had an outerwear on mine and that thing would restrict more than it did anything....so I take the outerwear off the filter, and after riding I look in the carbs and see dirt and grime sitting there. WTF? I think I'm going to foam too.... Quote
FlatTrackinIt55 Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 sorry to hear that guys i run k&n w/o a outerwear and dont have yalls problem.. maybe im just lucky Quote
Ducman Posted January 3, 2005 Report Posted January 3, 2005 Sand on the Oregon coast is definitly cleaner, bigger particles and not as many fines, and inland sand. Maybe thats the difference. I know that the blaster my wife had would get the outerwear clogged really bad in the sand in any condition. I have been in some pretty dusty conditions with my foam pods and have no dirt residue in the carbs or inside of the filter.. The foam isn't all that thick either, flows air probably as good as K&N. Sand sticks to the oiled foam pods pretty bad though, but I don't think it restricts the airflow all that much, just hard to get all the sand unstuck and out of the foam when cleaning. I have some K&N pods and outerwear but I haven't used them yet. Quote
compose2 Posted January 4, 2005 Report Posted January 4, 2005 i had k&n pod filters. man they were junk. they didn't filter crap. i switched to a team yamaha gyt-r 2 stage filter. 2 layer filter, inside was a fine foam, outside layer is a coarse brillow like filter. works excellent and allows better flow compared to stock filter Quote
