YFZRida05 Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 Hey guys, I was just dicking around with this damn thing for 2 hours and still can't get the alen head screw to go into the other end of the chain slider Please, if you know any way to get one of these things together, let me know, Thanx! Here is a pic! Quote
ledofthezep Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 Not trying to sound like Captain Obvious....but you did remove the old slider didn't you? Other than that, it looks pretty self explanatory. I had the cascade style similar to that, but had to remove the swingarm to put it on...that's the nice thing about the one you got there, not having to remove the swinger. However, you're the 1st person I've heard from that's had any problems. Wish I had a good suggestion other than making sure the old slider ring is not on there & there's nothing binding it up. Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 I have the same UPP slider. Pull it back off the arm and make sure the hole is threaded correctly in the main portion of the slider, then re-install on the swinger and make sure you line the bolt up accordingly, should only take 2 minutes ... RNBRAD Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 Yep had the same damn problem myself. It was a total pain in the azz to line up the hole where the screw goes. I just used a lot of force then went right in. Was not near as easy as you would think. Sheesh some of the things that appear so simple can really piss you off. Quote
Wallrat Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 I'll bet some LIGHT sanding on the circular part of the guard would make things easier. Quote
boonman Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 Nylon like that can get all sorts of funny when tapped out. The threads NEVER like to start in a fashion that is appeasing to the end user. What happens is that the tap starts getting a touch dull, and instead of cutting the threads, it kind of "forms" the threads. In other words, it mushes the material out, and once the tap is removed, the material shrinks some, and makes the screw go in really tight. Bummer, but that's the lay of the land with plastics and threads..... Quote
wodeman Posted December 17, 2004 Report Posted December 17, 2004 Did you remove the "shim" piece that is mounted on the swingarm for the stock roller? If not the slider wont come close in fitting together because the diameter is not correct. You shouldnt have to sand the hole to "make it fit". The piece is part number 42 on the rear swingarm parts breakdown sheet linked below. http://216.37.204.206/alba/Yamaha_OEM/Yama...e=13&A=219&B=22 Quote
Redlined Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 It sounds like everybody has got you covered here. The only thing I would add is, be sure you have the Allen at the proper angle when trying to screw it in. If you Quote
Bensshee Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 I had a similar problem. The part that the allen head screw was suppose to be screwed into was messed up. I took it back and got a new one and it worked right away. Good luck. Quote
squish Posted December 18, 2004 Report Posted December 18, 2004 Im glad I bought the tm design slider. Quote
YFZRida05 Posted December 18, 2004 Author Report Posted December 18, 2004 It came with dirctions. I removed the factory slider and ring and the damn thing will not close all the way and let me put the alen head screw in. It is totally mis aligned when I wrapped it around the swinger and tried to force it shut to put the screw in. I am tempted to just run a sheet metal screw right into it and not worry about it. Quote
