Tx-Motocross Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Make this simple... I've got a 00 stock banshee with the exception of FMF pipe and SIlencer and K&N Air filter. I took it for a ride today...I stoped and when it iddled down right before i turned it off. I noticed a knocking noise... but when i'd gas it (netural that is or Clutch PUlled in) It wasn't making the noise but when i let off and it was going back to a idle.. i could hear it... What could this be? Krank? pistion?... also. when i'd put it in netural to put it in the shed.. (stoped riding it incase of pistion scaring the cylinder walls) I'd notice u could hear it poping on the inside. Maybe that'll help identify the problem.. It ran fine, (the 50 yards i rode it to put it up) but the noise didn't sound good at all. ANy help is appreciated. THanks, Quote
bansheefreak Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 kinda sounds like a rod bearing..... or could be clutch basket too/ i'd check clutch first Quote
Tx-Motocross Posted December 7, 2004 Author Report Posted December 7, 2004 Would it just be a loose clutch basket or what? I havent had the time to look in it yet it'll be a week or so. I'm heading outta town this weekend. Thanks, Derrick Quote
RNBRAD Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Mines always made a similar noise, pull in the clutch, walla it's gone , let out and it kinda rattles. Does that sound like what yours is doing? Mines done that for as long as I can rememeber, never a problem though. I also think it's more noticeable at different times too. Quote
Leadfoot350 Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 The gear and the clutch basket are connected by 3 rivits and between those are rubber shocks. The problem with the shocks on a stock basket are they break and are week. Take off the clutch basket. Grab the gear with one hand and the basket with the other and try to twist them. If they move then you need to buy a new set up. I got a hinson but I think wiseco makes them as well. You will need to re-use the old gear and grind off the rivits but it is Very easy to do this. Dont pay anyone to do this we will talk you through it. Quote
ledofthezep Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 You may have broke a finger off the clutch baskett...my stocker broke w fingers off after about 5hrs with a HD clutch. Like the others said...tip your quad up on it's side & pull the clutch cover off & take a look....if you tip it up on its side you won't lose all your oil. Quote
