kdneo Posted November 18, 2004 Report Posted November 18, 2004 you'll have to pardon me, I am new the the banshee scene. Do most people powder coat or pain thier frames??? I bought a used 99 banshee that freaking hauls, but the frame is like a blue color that was clearly sprayed over a sliver metalic color, and the blue is chipping away, causing it to look like crap. So, am I best off painting or powder coating the frame? I know people that will paint it any color, for free labor. but I called the powder coater today and they want $200 for a gloss black color, and $65/hr for sandblasting. Thanks for the help Quote
Wallrat Posted November 20, 2004 Report Posted November 20, 2004 I sandblasted mine and painted it with some spray paint (engine enamel to be precise). That was this past February and its still holding up great, not a single chip. Quote
racer Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 if i ever get off my lazy ass ill finish smoothing my frame then its got a date with the powder coater. id paint it myself, but i dont have media blast equipment and im not wire brushin that fucker. so mine's gettin sent off. Quote
370banshee Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 powder coating is the best and if you have a sand blaster it cuts the cost down alot!!! but painting it will work to. powder coat holds up a bit better though Quote
brock_fuzzy_69 Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 i woudl luv to try 2 part epoxy paint that stuff is every bit as tough as powder coat Quote
locogato11283 Posted November 21, 2004 Report Posted November 21, 2004 i would go powdercoat. i dont think there is much that holds up better than pcing. the guy that does all my stuff is very cheap i think. for normal colors hell do a frame for 150 bucks. that includes the sandblasting. for the translucent colors he charges 175. hubs and small shit is usually under 10 bucks a piece. 200 for a frame plus the 65 an hour for sandblasting is robbery. I know a guy with a small sandblaster so I may attempt blasting it myself to save a few bucks, but for $150 including sandblasting I would just pay that to save myself the trouble Quote

kdneo Posted November 22, 2004 Author Report Posted November 22, 2004 Has anybody tried that POR 15 for frames of cars? Shit is bullit proof of jeep frames. 283566[/snapback] saw that stuff on spike TV today on trucks, they showed a sample of it, with a guy beating it with a hammer, no cracks or chips. Not sure how much it takes to paint a frame, but the show said it's like $80 a gallon. Anyone know what colors it comes in???? Quote
370banshee Posted November 24, 2004 Report Posted November 24, 2004 i had my Ltr250R frame painted wioth POR15. it does chip but not very easily Quote
Flyin_Shee Posted November 25, 2004 Report Posted November 25, 2004 What is a good paint to get if you are going to do it yourself? My frame is partially rusted (from salt from hauling it on an open trailer last winter) and I'm just goin to wire brush it unless I can get my hands on a big enough sand blaster. My friend paints his Blaster frames but it usually doesn't hold up very long in high-wear parts (where your boots rub). Quote
370banshee Posted November 27, 2004 Report Posted November 27, 2004 theres apint they use on cement trucks called emron its' tough shit but your gonna need a spray gun to apply it. Quote
