XxMeltIcexX Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Yet another feat i have accomplished.. I polished my axle.. This axle i got for free because the guy thought it was a piece of shit, well it was, it had deep gashes from him putting it in a vice, it still have them, but they are smaller and polished...I was so excitwed to get this done i forgot to do before pics.. sorry.. but heres what i came up with... WHat you think? Decent huh? I used a flap wheel on it, then brown compound on a sewed wheel, then used steel wool, then used brown compound on a sisel wheel, then white compound on a loose cotton wheel.. Took me about 2 hours.. I mean this axle was a TERRIBLE shape, you wouldnt believe, damn i ish i have before pictures! Cheers Quote
RNBRAD Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 (edited) You may want to clear coat it or PC clear it to protect the finish. Depends on how thick the original chrome or galvanized coating was. Just so it won't rust so easy. BTW looks killer. On to the next project and hurry up already. lol Edited November 17, 2004 by RNBRAD Quote

ranshee Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Dude, use some aircraft remover. That shits amazing. Strips paint in minutes Quote
RNBRAD Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 When your done with the Shee, start on your lawn mower. You'll be the envy of all your neighbors. Clutch case is looking good, may take several apps of the remover to get it off. Also a little help with scotch-bright doesn't hurt. It shouldn't need any sanding, a little at worst, and go straight to the wheel. It's already really smooth. One thing you may notice or already know is that the side cover will have some color variations in the metal. This is normal and I think its because of the magnesium mixture in the mold. Keep us posted on the progress. Quote
XxMeltIcexX Posted November 17, 2004 Author Report Posted November 17, 2004 Magnesssiuom, huh? How do you know what this shits made out of.. lol.. I put like 5 coats on it, and it wouldnt come off, all of it that is... so i just started sanding it...I know, probably a bad idea... but i was gettin mad... Im gonna put soem steel wool to it tomrmrow and hopefully start teh polishin... Quote
RNBRAD Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Mine took 3 days sitting on a old cookie sheet saturated in aircraft paint stripper. I would take and rinse it occasionally and apply new. This will speed the process. But remember, take your time. Let the stripper do as much work as it will. Rinse and reapply, the new won't get down to the paint if you just apply it on the top. Quote
