I got my 2 cents to add. I remember I was a bit pissed off, a little confused and disgruntled when I was in the service. Yeah I was deployed for a year, yeah I fought a war, yeah this yeah that..but so what? I don't need anyone's admiration, I don't need any hand outs or sympathy. I'm over all that shit. Nobody owes me a damn thing and I owe nobody anything. I suggest you visit DC their PolyCarbon and take a walk down to the Veitnam memorial. Compared to that shit, OIF was just a camping trip in the desert for a year. Yeah it sucked..but what can you do? Just file a claim with the VA, get yourself some compensation and use your Montgomery GI bill to the fullest extent. Don't join the service to glory hunt, don't think you'll be a hero...just do your job and deal with what your presented. Military isn't for everyone..It wasn't for me, but I gritted my teeth did my time and now I'm enjoying my life.Here's a tip to those that want to join Aviation is the only way to serve, the Airforce sucks, Army will wear you down, the Marines are a bunch of jarheads and the Navy's gay. Take your pick.

my dad was in guam during operation arklite in the vietnam war, usaf! .he tells me theres a big a$$ drop off at the end of the runway . he was from barksdale afb though , with all the freakin b-52s . he got some beach time

id serve twice if i was drafted twice. i dont have kids but eventually i may, and i want them to have the type of childhood i had. if someone skips draft and moves to canada, they are pussies. sure you may get shot at, but at least you wont be a pussy, think of how many people look up to an American Soldier. then think, i gave up the oppurtunity to be one, tell that to the grand kids. my dad never served, he was never called upon in vietnam. so its not like this is some family tradition, im just not too big of a pussy to stand up for my country.

And Jesus Christ, I dont even like to tell people I am in the army or went to war because I know that I didnt do anything special that millions of people havent already done, or better put, I'm not looking for any glory. You sound a little angry and confused. What rank are you? Where are you stationed now? How long were you deployed? Where were you stationed? Did you see battle? Did you talk to the locals? If you served and gave 100% then my hat is off to you. It is hard to tell where you stand.

One last point, I was just talking to a Vietnam vet the other day. I told him, you know, Iraq sucked, but it was no vietnam. Thats what I always tell people about Iraq.

f*ck you. I joined the army when I was 17. No mother, no father, just a recruiter to forge my parents signature and say "Dont worry about it, you'll be fine". I didnt know what I was getting into, but that was a mistake I dealt with. I' signed for 5 damn years, not knowing mind you, that I couldnt get out if I wanted to without irrepairable damaged to the rest of my life. So I still have 1 year and 9 months to go. Sooooo, I HAD to go to war, or, go to JAIL for a VERY long time. Hmmmmm. So the point is (if there even is one), don't hate on people who dont want to join the Army and risk thier lives for A) a cause they dont believe inB.) A country they dont believe in.
