Get a die the same size and thread count, and clean the threads up.You may have to go a size smaller depending on how messed up the threads are.

It is the frame threads on the bottom where it goes on top of the steering stem bearing.

I don't know of frame threads on the bottom. I thought there was just a bracket at the top and a nut that screwed on the steering stem at the bottom.

If it in the frame, try a tap to clean it up. If it to messed up, just drill and to to the next size.

you are talking about the Big Lock nut that is in the lower frame that holds the bearing in. Find the thread caser that JJ showed you that will work to clean it up.

they look round but are square in shape.

Good luck.

That thread restorer will not work on the frame. Only on external threads. LIke if the threaded nut was fubar'd, then you could use that, but why not just buy a new nut? Cheaper, and less painful. In the frame, I would try to find a bottoming tap, www.mscdirect.com or somewhere else. But the tap alone will prolly be more expensive than finding a used frame.... .
