2004LEBanshee Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 Decided to change the needle clip position. So took it all apart and went to put it back together and slightly bent the needle I also droped my slide about 3 ft on to the ground. So I decided to straighten the needle the best I could. I put it back in the carb and the slide went down but not sure if it went all the way down. I then put the cap on half way and pressed the throttle a few times to see if it was having any problems. I didn't notice any. So I screwed the caps on all the way and checked the throttle again and I couldn't even press it in. It was stuck!!! I then took the carb cap off and wasn't able to pull the slide out. So I took off the air fitlter and stuck a flat head in the intake and pushed up the slide enough so that I could take the throttle cable off the slide. I then removed the carb from the bike and took it in side. I stuck the screwdriver through the carb and pulled on it reall hard to get the slide to pop out. I then took the needle off the slide, cleaned the carb out good and tryed to put the slide with out the needle back in the carb. ( yes the correct way) The slide falls freely until the top of the slide is 1/2" below the carb top and it gets stuck again. If you push hard on the slide it will go the whole way but that cant be right. So what the hell is wrong? Is my slide bent? It looks fine to me. The carb dosen't have any scratchs that I can see to prevent the slide from falling down. NEED HELP!!! Quote
superchicken Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 (edited) i would check for any burs on the slide.if anything take some 300-400 grit sandpaer and some wd-40 and sand it up a bit to smooth it out.it should work after that Edited October 17, 2004 by superchicken Quote
Toomey Banshee Posted October 17, 2004 Report Posted October 17, 2004 order up a new set of needles while your at it. Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted October 17, 2004 Author Report Posted October 17, 2004 Yeah I was going to go to the store to get new needles I wonder If I can buy a new slide? Is it possible that it could be the carb? Quote
fixitrod Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 Take a dial caliper and rotate the slide in it. You'll be able to tell if it's bent that way. Are they stock carbs? Quote
Ducman Posted October 19, 2004 Report Posted October 19, 2004 I got a complete stock set for sale, pretty inexpensive, bored to 28mm if buying or fixing slides is too expensive or doesn't work out. Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted October 19, 2004 Author Report Posted October 19, 2004 I took some sand paper and fine steel wool and sanded them a lil and now it slides up and down great. Will the fact that there sanded cause any problems? I didn't sand them long. Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted October 21, 2004 Author Report Posted October 21, 2004 Another problem. They slid fine then I put them in the shee. I rode it around for about 5 minutes up and down the road. And now it is getting stuck again. What the f*ck. I took the carb out again and I have to push hard to get the carb to slide up and down. Quote
fixitrod Posted October 21, 2004 Report Posted October 21, 2004 Sounds like it's the slide. Make sure the pin the slides in the groove isn't loose though. It's a guide pin. Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted October 21, 2004 Author Report Posted October 21, 2004 I sanded it a lil again and now it slides great. Did that black ish coating on the slide serve a purpose? Quote
Banchetta Posted October 22, 2004 Report Posted October 22, 2004 sanding won't hurt it, the black is just a tephlon to make it more slippery. when you dropped it, you must have egg-shaped it or made a burr on an edge...if you egg-shaped it, then I'd get a new slide. Quote
2004LEBanshee Posted October 22, 2004 Author Report Posted October 22, 2004 I didn't see any bend to it so I sanded it a little again and now it is fine. At least for now. Quote
