kenr74 Posted October 4, 2004 Report Posted October 4, 2004 I just had some porting done and am starting to play with my jetting. I was already pretty rich on the main jet and seem to still be a little rich. The pilot was fine before but now I think it may be to small. It will start and idle fine but after running it hard it will die after I let off the gas. One kick and it will start right back up but it seems like it just doesn't get enough gas to keep it running after opening it up. I'm thinking that I need to go up on the pilot. Does that sound right? Quote
bigboybanshee Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 What size is your pilot now? This is simply a theory but could be your problem...I'm thinkin since you're running so rich it's not burning all of the fuel and the excess fuel is bogging it down when you let it idle after a WOT run. Your pilot may not be your problem...just a guess though Quote
kenr74 Posted October 5, 2004 Author Report Posted October 5, 2004 Interesting......never thought of it that way. It only started doing it after the porting so I was thinking that it wasn't getting enough gas but maybe it is getting too much. I'm only running a 27.5 pilot now so I'm going to pick up a 30 and 32.5 and see what happens. Quote
sredish Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 yeah, i don' tthink it's a pilot problem. more like a main or needle problem. could be the needle when transitioning off the main, and could be the main is rich. Experimentation my boy. Try going down on your main one size and if it clears up, there you go. If not, experiment with the needle. Now that you have porting, you might have to get a different taper to really run the way it should, something setup for your airflow more. Just a thought. Quote
bigboybanshee Posted October 5, 2004 Report Posted October 5, 2004 Try going down on your main one size and if it clears up, there you go. If not, experiment with the needle. I'd definitely go that route before changing your pilot jets...especially if you're not having trouble starting your shee. Quote
kenr74 Posted October 5, 2004 Author Report Posted October 5, 2004 Yeah, I was planning on dropping the mains so I'll start with that. I'm taking the day off tomorrow to spend out in the dunes tuning and getting it just right. If I give it a little throttle right before it dies it kept running so I though that it wasn't getting gas but maybe it was just not getting enough air for the gas already running through there. Banchetta Posted October 6, 2004 Report Posted October 6, 2004 I'd get those mains dialed in first. Run it wot and check the plugs. that'll help dial in those mains and go from there... Quote
