Bense Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 (edited) What the best chain to run for Glamis? What is the difference in an O ring chain and the X ring? Edited September 22, 2004 by Bense Quote
sredish Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 What is the difference in an O ring chain and the X ring? Not much, just instead of the ring that seals the chain being in the shape of an O, it's in the shape of an X, if you were looking at a cross section. They're both really the same, they just say the ring shaped as an X will hold lube in longer. I dunno, I just use a regular O ring chain. I know a lot of people that run non oring chains in the sand, just be sure to clean them and keep them lubed. Personally, I'd use a good strong oring with a tensile strength of 7,000 or more. I've been using a Renthal R-3 Oring chain for well over a year and not one single problem. DID is another chain you can't go wrong with. RK makes a good chain as well, it's your choice, just make sure it's strong. Quote
DUNEDEMON Posted September 22, 2004 Report Posted September 22, 2004 I used to run an RK O ring "rivet link" type, but grew tired of the press fit - no master link design (the press tool required to assemble / dis-assemble is expensive$$$), although it worked great in the sand, and only stretched a little when new. Now I run the DID ATV X-Ring (was designed specifically for ATV's according to DID) with a conventional master link and I'm much happier with it, it does seem to capture and hold the lubricant better, and for some reason is actually easier to clean, stretched about the same as the RK. Plating on the side plates is way more durable too on the DID. instead of the ring that seals the chain being in the shape of an O, it's in the shape of an X, if you were looking at a cross section. They're both really the same Actually Scott, there is a very noticible difference visually between the two, the instructions that came with my DID X-Ring had a special note regarding the orientation of the "X" ring placement when installing the master link to promote propper sealing / lubrication retention. I think they both have the same design principle, but the X-Ring does a better job as a result of more surface area. Quote
